GUILFORD – Malcolm H. “Mac” Herring, 87, died unexpectedly Nov. 10, 2011, at Mayo Regional Hospital, Dover-Foxcroft. He was born Aug. 4, 1924, in Guilford, son of Charles and Alta (Greeley) Herring.

Malcolm, along with his brother, Lorin, owned and operated Herring Brother’s Meats, Guilford, since 1945. Malcolm and Lorin worked side by side for many years building a business that is now being carried on by the fourth generation of Malcolm’s family. He enjoyed his work and meat cutting was his passion. He learned his meat cutting skills from his father. He has made his last delivery of meat, he has written his last payroll check, he has made his last pass through the shop, he has made his last trip to Piper Pond to camp. He has completed his journey of life and has crossed over to his loved ones. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, and was very dedicated to his family. He was a member of Valley Grange No. 144, Guilford Center.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Elizabeth (Fitzsimmons) Herring of Guilford; two daughters, Susan Coleman-Herring and her significant, other, James, of Milton, Mass., and Andrea Gilbert and her husband, Thomas, of Guilford; sister, Mary Herring Salley and her husband, James, of Dover-Foxcroft; grandchildren, Christine Chambrello, Thomas Torrey and his wife, Alicia, Ellie Patterson and her husband, John, and Trey Gilbert and his wife, Jaime; great-grandchildren, Mckenzie, Tommy, Tyler, Haylee, Bryce, Eve, Kobe and Gavyn; cousin, Neola Davis; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Lorin Herring, in 1995. The family wishes to thank the staff at Mayo Regional Hospital, especially Dr. Murray and nurse Derrick Nutter.
