BANGOR, Maine — Two women were arrested Tuesday afternoon after they tried to steal nearly $500 worth of merchandise from the Bangor Walmart, police said.

Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said that Wendy Courie, 30, of Bucksport and Janelle Vanchieri, 23, of Orrington attempted to leave the Stillwater Avenue store with approximately $483.50 in merchandise.

Edwards said that the store recovered the items, and store security contacted Bangor police. Officer Kevin Haefele responded and arrested both women, charging them with misdemeanor theft. — Ryan McLaughlin, BDN
