VEAZIE – Betty Ruth (Griffin) Treadwell, 78, loving wife and mother, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Nov. 17, 2011, surrounded by her loving family at a Bangor hospital. She was born Dec. 5, 1932, in Levant, daughter of Arthur Stanley and Doris Louise (Batchelder) Griffin.
Betty was formerly employed as a child evangelism fellowship rural Bible teacher, had worked for 25 years for Sylvania, now Verizon, and five years at Webber Oil. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Winter Harbor.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, Dr. Robert D. Treadwell Sr. of Veazie, pastor of First Baptist Church of Winter Harbor, are five children, Susan Ashford and her husband, Lloyd, of Austin, Texas, Deborah Treadwell of Bangor, Sherri Treadwell of Veazie, Robert D. Treadwell Jr. of Sanford and Stephen D. Treadwell and his wife, Martha, of Carmel; seven granddaughters, Stephanie, Stacie, Melanie, Crystal, Rebekah, Emily and Sarah; a very special great-grandson, Jeremiah Treadwell of Veazie; seven other loving great-grandchildren; one sister, Marie Kohtala of Vienna; two brothers, Paul Griffin and Galen Griffin, both of Levant; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Betty was predeceased by three brothers, Arthur Jr., Raymond and Reginald Griffin; and one sister, Edna Arnold.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call 4-6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 21, at Cornerstone Baptist Church, Exeter, with Pastor Stan Griffin officiating. Interment will be at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta.
