LINNEUS – Lillian Hughes (Rockwell) Sanders, 86, died Nov. 16, 2011, in Bangor. She was born Feb. 16, 1925, on a cold and stormy day, the daughter of Charles and Abbie (Hughes) Rockwell of Clark Settlement Road, Merrill.
Lillian attended Roosevelt Grammar School and Merrill High School. She interned at the School of Nursing at Aroostook General Hospital, Houlton, graduated and became a registered nurse in 1945 and worked as both staff nurse and private duty nurse at Aroostook General Hospital, Madigan Hospital and Houlton Regional until her retirement. She married Irving Sanders in 1947 and they had two children. She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and going to the lake, nursing, doing crossword puzzles, reading and sewing. She made quilts for all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Gayle Farris and her husband, George, of Greene and Gary Sanders and his wife, Sandra (Kitchen) of Linneus; grandchildren, Jolene, Andrew, Jon, Steven and Carrie; great-grandchildren, Dakota, Shelbey, Dameon, Michael, Daniel, Bethanie, Jonas, Aedon, Savannah, Brooklyn and Makala; brother, Boyd Rockwell; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Irving; great-granddaughter, Katie; and siblings, Asa, George, Pearl, Beryl and Mabel.
