PORTAGE LAKE – Theresa B. “Terri” Cyr, 82, beloved wife of Gilbert Cyr, passed away peacefully Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011, surrounded by her loving family at her home. She was born Nov. 4, 1929, in St. Agatha, daughter of Dan and Helene (Pelletier) Bosse.
She was a 1949 graduate of Sacred Heart High School, Van Buren. She was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Parish Sodality for many years. Terri was an avid skier, enjoyed golfing as a member of the Portage Hills Ladies League at Portage Hills Country Club, and loved to bowl in the Presque Isle Senior Bowling League. Throughout her life she was very active in her community and parish, serving as ballot clerk for the town of Portage Lake and as a Eucharistic minister and religious education teacher at her church. Terri will be remembered as an amazing self-sacrificing wife, Ma and Ammy. She always made holidays and occasions special for everyone in her family. Through baby blue eyes, she spread the kindness of her heart to all who surrounded her. One of Terri’s favorite places was at the lake where she spent every summer during her long life, surrounded by family and friends. She would move the family to the lake on the last day of school each summer and stay until Labor Day each fall. She enjoyed the many generations of young people enjoying the lake as she did. Terri and Gil enjoyed their years as “snow birds” in Florida and loved traveling, photographing and journaling their adventures across the globe. She volunteered her time tutoring students through the Martin County (Fla.) Literacy Council and continued her lifelong learning through a variety of continuing education classes.
In addition to her husband of nearly 59 years, Gil, who dedicated himself to making her days special, she is survived by her sons, Gregory and wife, Patricia, of Fort Kent and Scott and wife, Phyllis, of Cumberland; daughters, Janice Cyr and husband, Gerry Cormier, of Portage Lake, Charlene Cyr and husband, Clive Bragdon, of Cornish and Beverly Garrity and husband, Joseph, of Pawleys Island, S.C.; nine grandchildren, Tara, Chad, Chelsea, Dylan, Dayna, Rhyne, Abby, Danielle and Carter; and two great-grandchildren, Keegan and Emma. One of 12 children, she is also survived by her brothers, Lawrence and wife, Jackie, and Paul and wife, Jill; her sisters, Lucille Cyr, Dorothy Bosse and Bernadette Anderson; many nieces, nephews and friends. She will also be missed by a very devoted friend, Pat Plourde. Terri was predeceased by her brothers, Gilman Bosse, Donald Bosse and Louis Chasse; and her sisters, Doris Cyr, Martha “Babe” Laprise and Annette Chasse. Terry’s family wishes to acknowledge Visiting Nurses of Aroostook and Hospice of Aroostook for their care and concern during the last several weeks.
