HERMON – Carroll A. “Cal” McKay, 85, passed away Nov. 20, 2011, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Nov. 4, 1926, in Easton, son of James and Grace (Towle) McKay.

Cal served in the U.S. Army/Air Force during World War II in the Philippines. He married Gloria Kierstead and moved to Newburgh, where he farmed for several years and raised their five children. They enjoyed camping with many friends in different parts of Maine. They moved to Hampden where he started his own power equipment company, which consisted of chain saws, lawn mowers, snow blowers, etc., and later moved to Bangor continuing with the power equipment business. He and his wife then started a new business venture called McKay’s RV, selling campers and accessories. Cal was a licensed pilot owning his own airplane, enjoyed golf, hunting and fishing, and attended Hermon Baptist Church. He was a member of Lynde Lodge No. 174, AF & AM, Hermon, member and ambassador of Anah Shriners, Bangor. Cal wintered in Florida for many years, and continued working in the RV business well into his 80s.

He is survived by his two daughters and husbands, Carole and Peter Cote of Hermon, and Nancy and Herb McClure of Newburgh; son, Jim McKay and his wife, Sheila, of Tacoma, Wash.; stepdaughter, Robin Pasternak of Orlando, Fla.; sister, Avis Pierdominici of Orlando, Fla.; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Art Burt, Henry Philbrick and Merle Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two wives, Gloria Kierstead and Barbara Moody; two sons, four sisters and one brother.

A service of remembrance will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, at Hermon Baptist Church with the Rev. Garnett Chute, pastor, officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments immediately after the service at the church. Interment will be after the reception at Pine Grove Cemetery, Bangor.
