SALEM, Mass. — Because of a dispute over a cat, police said, a local woman assaulted and then threatened her victim with a hatchet during a domestic dispute on Tuesday.
Amanda Deering, 33, of 24 Prince St., Salem, was charged with domestic assault and battery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and assault by means of a dangerous weapon at 6:18 p.m. on Prince Street.
According to police, Deering “kicked the victim in the crotch, then grabbed him by the throat.”
Following the first two alleged assaults, police said Deering grabbed a hatchet and raised it over her head.
A resident was able to grab her arm and take the hatchet away before calling police, officials said.
Police arrived on the scene and, within 15 minutes, placed Deering under arrest.
