BREWER – Alton Irving Tyler, 77, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Nov. 29, 2011, with his pretty girl, Midge, by his side. He was born July 20, 1934, in Lubec, son of Irving and Blanche (Fenderson) Tyler.

Alton graduated from Lubec High School in 1953. He served as a corporal in the U.S. Army in Korea from Jan. 17, 1957 to May 31, 1963. Alton married Mildred Harvey, Sept. 5, 1959. Alton was chef and food production manager at the University of Maine, Orono, for 31 years before he retired in 1996. He was a third degree Mason, member of Washington County Masonic Lodge AF & AM No. 37, Lubec, for 52 years. Alton’s favorite sport was baseball. He played Division I baseball as a catcher during his enlistment in the Army.

He loved following his favorite team, the Boston Red Sox. Alton was a collector of antique automobiles and sports cars. He and his wife, Midge, enjoyed taking a drive in their BMW convertible on beautiful summer days.

Alton is survived by the love of his life, best friend and devoted wife of 52 years, Mildred (Harvey) Tyler; sisters-in-law, Linda Moores and her husband, Gary, and Gina Lyons; brothers-in-law, Russell Harvey, Robert Blake and his wife, Janet, and Oliver Blake and his wife, Virginia; nieces and nephews, Irving Creath and his wife, Gail, Cindy Lingley and her husband, Donald, Michael Creath and his wife, Viki, William Davidson and his wife, Cathy, and Gerry Garcia; a special cousin, Ella Robinson; many cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his three sisters, Arlene Apt, Pearl Mullen and Phyllis Davidson.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Dec. 10 at Christian Temple Church, Lubec. Family and friends are invited to share conversation and refreshments after the service at Mary Pike Hall.
