MARS HILL – William Cumming Langley, 87, died Dec. 4, 2011, surrounded by his family at The Aroostook Medical Center, Presque Isle. He was born Feb. 28, 1924, in Easton, son of P. Berfield and Elizabeth (Cumming) Langley.
He had lived most of his life in Mars Hill, having attended local schools including Aroostook Central Institute. Before entering the service, he was a student at the University of Maine, Orono, for a short time and later graduated from Coyne Electrical School, Chicago. While in the military, he served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant in the Pacific Theater during World War II. For many years he farmed and was also employed for 19 years at the University of Maine at Presque Isle, having retired in 1989.
He is survived by his wife, Marion (Bell) Langley; son, Brent, both of Mars Hill; daughter, Paula Beardon and her husband, Brian, of Somersworth, N.H.; two grandchildren, Bethany and Luke Reardon; sister-in-law, Ethelyn Langley of Presque Isle and Florida; as well as many relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Earl Langley; and a sister, Dorine Tupper.
