MILLINOCKET – Paul J. Michaud, 73, died Monday, Dec. 5, 2011, at a Millinocket hospital. He was born July 2, 1938, in Millinocket, son of Vincent J. and Catherine (Galvin) Michaud.
P.J. grew up in Millinocket and graduated from Stearns High School with the class of 1957. He served in the National Guard for a brief time after graduation, and then went on to attend Ricker College, Houlton, where he earned a teaching degree. After teaching at Howland High School for a few years, he went to work at Millinocket School Department, where he taught math and science for the remainder of his career, retiring in 1993. While teaching in Millinocket, he helped found the Outing Club, which he remained involved in for several years. He also served on the board of directors for Region III. P.J. was a devout member of Christ the Divine Mercy Parish at St. Martin’s, and was also a member of Knights of Columbus and the R.C.I.A. Team. P.J. enjoyed old cars as a hobby, as well as woodworking. Everyday he would take his dogs for a ride, and he enjoyed feeding wild animals.
P.J. is survived by three godchildren, Warren Morrison of Millinocket, David Jamo of East Millinocket and Andrew Glidden of Millinocket; a cousin, who tended to P.J. as a sister, Sandra Lyons of Millinocket; a granddaughter, Madeline Morrison of Millinocket; several cousins and many good friends. He will also be missed by his canine friends, Amber and Joe; as well as a stray cat, Geronimo.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at Christ the Divine Mercy Parish at St. Martin of Tours, 19 Colby St., Millinocket. Interment will be at Millinocket Cemetery. Gifts in memory of P.J. may be sent to Katahdin Area Support Group, 10 Field St., Millinocket, ME
