HARTLAND, Maine — A local woman was arrested Wednesday after police said they searched her and her car and found heroin and drug-related materials.
Melinda Riggs, 22, was charged with possession of a Schedule W drug, a Class C felony. She was taken to the Somerset County Correctional Facility in Madison.
The arrest was part of an investigation into the sale and use of drugs in the Hartland area, according to Detective Lt. Carl E. Gottardi II of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department.
About 1:30 p.m., officers with the Sheriff’s Department executed a drug search warrant on Crosby Street in Hartland, where Riggs was stopped operating a red 2002 Ford, Gottardi said. He said heroin, drug-packaging material and drug-related articles were found and seized during the search of Riggs and her car.
Additional charges against Riggs and others may be lodged once the case is reviewed by the Somerset County District Attorney’s Office, Gottardi said.
