EXETER and BREWER – Shirley (Linscott) Garceau, 89, beloved wife of the late Alphonse Garceau, went to heaven Dec. 2, 2011. She passed comfortably with her family by her side at a Bangor hospital. She was born Sept. 4, 1922, in Ellsworth, to Hollis and Annie (Camber) Linscott.
She graduated from Maine School for the Deaf, Portland. Shirley was an active member of the Bangor Deaf Club, enjoyed crocheting and sewing, and liked to play bingo. She worked for Viner Bros. Shoe Factory for more than 25 years. She was a foster grandparent at Elizabeth Levinson Center for more than 10 years. She enjoyed spending 11 years in Clearwater, Fla., before moving back to Maine.
Shirley is survived by two daughters, Valerie Libby and Judith Whitmore of Exeter; grandchildren, Tammy, Christopher, Mark, Wanda and John; 14 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her grandson, Anthony; and great-grandson, Mark Jr.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Dec. 10 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 768 Ohio St., Bangor. A reception will be afterward at St. Mary’s. Burial will be in the spring.
