NEW LIMERICK – Ronald F. Thurston Sr., 74, died Dec. 9, 2011, at his home. He was born Sept. 4, 1937, in Lowell, Mass., the son of George and Doris (Irish) Thurston.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during Vietnam. He was very active in St. John the Evangelist Church, where he sang in the choir and was a fourth degree Knight. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and retired from St. Joseph Hospital, Nashua, N.H., after 27 years.

He is survived by his wife, Joanne “Cookie” (Hill) Thurston of New Limerick; two sons, Ronald Jr. of New Limerick and Sean and Kerry Thurston of Manalapan, N.J.; three grandchildren, Rhys, Morgan and Angie; one great-granddaughter, Ariah; two brothers, Daniel Thurston of North Carolina and Donald Thurston of Virginia; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents.

Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Bowers Funeral Home, 10 Water St., Houlton. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Houlton, with Father David Raymond, celebrant. Interment will be at New Limerick Cemetery.
