ALEXANDER – Bernard Phillip Flood, 85, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011, at Calais Regional Hospital with his loving sister by his side. Bernard was born June 1, 1926, in Alexander, son of the late Raymond and Doris (Woods) Flood.
He started working in the woods with his father at a young age. On Sept. 14, 1949, he married the love of his life, Barbara J. Deane. Bernard then began his career with Georgia Pacific, retiring with 25 years of service. After retiring from the mill, he became a deputy sheriff for Washington County Sheriff’s Department for several years. Bernard loved the Lord and was a member of Church of the Open Bible, Alexander, which he helped build. Bernard was a member of the Quarter Century Club with Georgia Pacific and enjoyed spending time outdoors. He made many fond memories while hunting with his brother-in-law, Hank Dinkins and Bud Wittig, as well as fishing with Hank, Bud, his nephew and niece, Richard and Mary Flood, and his great-niece, Amanda Danico.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Barbara, in 2007; two sons, Alan and Brian Flood; two brothers, Paul and Russell Flood; a brother-in-law, Hank Dinkins; and a nephew, Russell Flood. Surviving are his sister, Maxine Dinkins of Carmel; sister-in-law, Madeline Perkins and her husband, Leo, of Baileyville; a brother-in-law, Everett Deane and his wife, Beverly, of Baileyville; a special nephew, Richard Flood and his wife, Mary, of Alexander; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visiting hours will be held noon-1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at Church of the Open Bible, Route 9, Alexander, where a celebration of Bernard’s life will begin 1 p.m. after the visitation with Pastor Chip Howell and Terry Dinkins officiating.
