NEW GLOUCESTER, Maine — A Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office detective was in the right place at the right time Wednesday when he allegedly caught a burglar in the act.
Michael Farling, 18, was arrested after he broke into a New Gloucester home Wednesday morning, according to the Sheriff’s Office. A detective investigating a series of burglaries was waiting inside for Farling after he smashed a bedroom window to gain entry, according to police.
Farling is facing charges of burglary and violating conditions of release, the Sheriff’s Office said Thursday. He remains in custody on $50,000 cash bail, and his first court appearance is on Friday in Portland. Farling was on bail for a past burglary charge.
