WINDHAM and DOVER-FOXCROFT – Constance “Connie” (Anderson) Wright, 77, of Windham, died Dec. 14, 2011, at a Freeport nursing home. She was born Sept. 1, 1934, in Garland, the daughter of Edward and Dora (Stevens) Anderson.
She started her educational career at the one-room school at Bear Hill, Dover-Foxcroft, and later graduated from Foxcroft Academy in 1953. She was a cheerleader for football and basketball while at the academy. She married Calvin Wright, also an academy graduate in the class of 1951. Later he served in the U.S. Army for two years during the Korean War. He then operated the grocery on the corner in Merrick Square, and then they ran a motel in Scarborough, before moving to Windham. In Dover-Foxcroft she became an ardent bowler, so became a part of a team of women bowlers. Despite being alone after her husband’s death, she drove round trips to Portland from Windham to obtain needed medical help. Keeping her home well maintained and cared for was also a strong priority for her. “Connie,” as she was known by family and friends, always had a deep liking and compassion for dogs, especially dachshunds, of which she had two for a long time, and if a hungry stray cat came to her door, it was always fed and soon became an adopted part of her family. Her caring for even smaller creatures was seen as she kept two tanks of tropical fish alive by heat from flashlights when there was no power during an ice storm.
She was predeceased by her husband, Calvin Wright, who died Nov. 3, 2000; her parents; and a grandson, Cory Wright. She is survived by a son, Alan Wright and his wife, Connie, and their sons, Eric and Chris, all of Buxton; a son, Stephen Wright and his wife, Sandy, and their daughter, Jennifer, all of Limington; a brother, James Anderson and his wife, Linda, of Dover-Foxcroft; numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
Friends are invited to call noon until time of funeral service 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 19, at Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft, with the Rev. Chad Poland officiating. Burial will be in the family lot at Pine Grove Cemetery, French Road, Dover South Mills. Memorial contributions may be made to Bangor Humane Society, 693 Mount Hope Ave., Bangor, ME 04401 or to a charity of choice.
