BREWER – Frances C. Grover, 92, wife of the late Roscoe Grover, died Dec. 17, 2011, with her family at her side at a Bangor hospital. She was born Oct. 28, 1919, in Dorchester, Mass., the daughter of Frank and Mary (Clark) Cambria.
She deeply loved her parents; and siblings, Josephine “Joey,” Frank, Mary and Peggy, and remained close to them throughout her life. Frances grew up and attended schools in North Quincy, Mass. She worked as a secretary at Suffolk University, where she met her husband, Roscoe, who was attending Suffolk Law School. They married after Roscoe’s graduation and initially moved to Hudson, Mass., where her first child, Stephen John, was born. Her second child, Frances Linda, was born in Quincy, Mass., while Roscoe was serving in World War II. Frances raised Stevie and Linda on her own until Roscoe returned. They moved to Maine in the 1940s, where they built their home in North Brewer. Their two younger children, Richard Allen and Kathleen Mary, were born in Maine. Frances continued to live in her own home for the remainder of her life. Frances was a longtime communicant of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Brewer. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family meant everything to her and she devoted her life to caring for her children. She and her husband, “Bud,” deeply loved their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. It was always a treat for the little ones to spend time at Nana and Grampy’s house, where Nana always cooked their favorite foods and they were made to feel so special and so loved.
She is survived by three children, Linda Coleman and her husband, Robert, of Coursegold, Calif., Richard Grover and his wife, Shirley, of Brewer and Kathleen Grover and her husband, Jon Holder, of Bar Harbor; eight grandchildren, Catherine Johnson of Coursegold, Calif., Laura Sullivan and her husband, James, of Durham, Conn., John Coleman and his wife, Tanya, of Mariposa, Calif., Sarah Burkart and her husband, Tom, of Fresno, Calif., Donald Grover and his wife, Cindy, of Brewer, Diana Grover of Holden, Mariah Holder and her husband, Jason Heinze, of New Orleans and Emma Holder of Austin, Texas; 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Josephine M. Watson of Plymouth, Mass.; one sister-in-law, Nancy Cambria of Norwell, Mass., as well as many nieces and nephews. She will be remembered by friends, Phyllis and Don Breen. Her cat, Sooty, was her much loved companion. She was predeceased by her son, Stephen Grover
Family and friends may visit 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 531 North Main St., Brewer.
