CAMDEN – Harold Eugene Boynton, 89, died Sunday, Dec. 18, 2011, at Windward Gardens, Camden. Born May 29, 1922, in Camden, he was the son of George Edwin and Rose (Wheeler) Boynton.

He was a 1940 graduate of Camden High School, where he played baseball and basketball, before attending Kents Hill School. He worked for General Electric before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. Harold served four years in the Navy and was stationed in Newport, R.I., Miami and Rio de Janeiro. After his military service, Harold returned to Camden, worked several years for Prince’s, and married Madeline Nevers in 1948. Harold worked 35 years at the U.S. Postal Service before retiring. Harold enjoyed fishing on Megunticook Lake and Moosehead Lake; and bowling on teams at Camden YMCA and Lucky Strike Lanes. An avid golfer who achieved several holes-in-one, Harold’s memberships included Rockland Golf Club, Northern Maine Seniors and Central Maine Seniors. He also enjoyed woodworking and fly tying.

He was predeceased by his brother, George E. Boynton Jr. Surviving is his wife of 63 years, Madeline N. Boynton of Camden; two daughters, Rebecca Saulnier and her husband, Robert, of Pembroke, N.H., and Katherine Patterson and her husband, Stephen, of Cushing; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, at Long Funeral Home, 9 Mountain St., Camden. Spring burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Camden.
