BANGOR – Robert “Bob” Michael Quinn Sr., 80, died unexpectedly Dec. 19, 2011, in Bangor. He was born April 14, 1931, in Bangor, the son of John Thomas and Edith Marie (Bielaski) Quinn.

Bob graduated from John Bapst High School, class of 1949. After John Bapst he attended Higgins Classical Institute, class of 1950. He later graduated from the University of Maine, Orono, class of 1955. He followed in his father’s footsteps by attending Georgetown Law School and then served in the U.S. Army at the Pentagon. Bob founded The Quinn Agency, in 1961, offering real estate and insurance services. He was active in the community, serving as commissioner of Bangor Housing Authority, director of Bangor Salvation Army and a member of the Lions Club. A former associate of the Bangor Planning Board, he had been active in the Holy Name Society of St. John’s Church and was a coordinator of the CCD Program at St. Mary’s Church. He was a former president of Bangor Board of Realtors and volunteered at a number of local charities, including the Shaw House. Bob was an avid sailor and downhill skier of Sugarloaf Mountain, a season pass holder for more than 40 years. He was happiest when surrounded by his grandchildren or eating lobster on a Friday night or watching a great game. Above all, he will be remembered for the enduring love and total commitment to his family and friends.

He is survived by his brother, J. William “Bill” Quinn and wife, Priscilla, of Bangor; and sister, Mary Scribner of St. Petersburg, Fla. Bob was the proud father of children, Kathryn and her husband, Timothy Stanley, of Silver Spring, Md., Erin and her husband, David Brown, of Naples, Fla., R. Michael Quinn Jr. and wife, Jane, of Newton, Mass., Christopher and his wife, Julie, of Sherborn, Mass., and Michelle and her husband, Carl Smith, of Framingham, Mass. He was the joyful grandfather of Sophia and Sara Stanley, Ainsley and Zoe Brown, Peter and Nola Quinn, Charles, Caroline, William and Alice Quinn, Cullen, Nolan and Kailey Smith. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, John “Jackie” and Joseph Quinn; and his sister, Helen Mooney.

Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 23, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John’s Catholic Church, 207 York St., Bangor.
