SACO, Maine — A Biddeford man is behind bars Friday after he was arrested in connection with the theft of gift cards from a local church.

James W. Haines, 53, was picked up on Wednesday by Saco police, with Biddeford detectives assisting, Saco police Sgt. Scott Sicard told the Bangor Daily News.

Haines is facing a charge of theft and remains in the York County Jail Friday, Sicard said.

A theft of roughly $200 in gift cards from the Most Holy Trinity Church in Saco was reported Dec. 13. Police are investigating to whether the Saco theft is related to a similar incident at St. Philip Church in Lyman.
