WATERVILLE, Maine — Police in Maine are going to be talking about a new citizen initiative that is part of the search for a missing 20-month-old Waterville girl.

A news conference is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Waterville.

Waterville police say the initiative is designed by local individuals to encourage anyone with knowledge of Ayla Reynold’s whereabouts to contact police.

Ayla’s whereabouts have been unknown since her father, Justin DiPietro, reported her missing on Dec. 17. DiPietro has told police he last saw his daughter on the previous night when he put her to bed and that when he checked on her the next morning, she was gone.

The case continues to garner attention from state, regional and national media. Numerous national outlets have highlighted the case, including the Today Show more than once and the Lifetime Channel program America’s Most Wanted on Friday night.

Experts on missing persons investigations also have weighed in with a litany of theories that ranged from Ayla wandering away from her home during the night to being abducted to being the victim of foul play. Investigators have said they are pursuing several angles at once.

Members of the First Baptist Church in Waterville devoted part of their Christmas service to praying for the girl.

The toddler is described as 2 feet, 9 inches tall, weighing 30 pounds and with blond hair. She last was seen wearing green polka-dotted one-piece pajamas with the words “Daddy’s Princess” on the front. She had a cast on her left arm.

State and federal law enforcement agencies have spent all week searching for her, including several places in the Waterville area late this week. They searched vehicles at the DiPietro home and put crime scene tape around it, which Waterville Police Chief Joseph Massey said is standard procedure. As of late Saturday morning, according to McCausland, the situation still was considered a missing person case.

“I’m not aware of any new developments today on this Christmas weekend,” said Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland.

    1. Have you seen the last “press conferences” they have had?  They talk a lot like the Governor from same said city and tell things we all already know and give us no real answers “blah blah blah, missing child case even though we have tape up…call if you know anything”  They need to help us if they want us to help them too and details is a good start, and I will say it again, I am pretty sure someone is not being as cooperative as the police claim everyone is…someone they spoke to, knows something.  Searching the woods is only verifying she is not there.  The time has come that people need some pressure put on them.

      1. So if you had information that would assist in finding the missing little girl you would withhold it because the press conference didn’t “help” you. Is that really what you meant to say?

          1. Well let’s see…

“Have you seen the last “press conferences” they have had?”

            Nope not there.

Hmmmm…yup I would say it was with that statement.

          2. Saying having them help us is far more different then accusing someone of saying they are willing to withhold information.  Two different languages buddy, nice try though, unless you can point out I explicitly said that, move on to another post

          3. Then explain what you meant by ” They need to help us” .

As far as “two different languages” its one unless you are speaking about the Queens English.

  1. Come out, come out, wherever you  are … there’s a media event and reality show waiting for you!!  I truly believe this little girl is alive and someone who wants all this attention knows where she is.

  2. I’m assuming they actually talked to all of the adults in the house that night.  Was she there for sure?  Did anyone else see her?  I hope he has her hidden for some reason and that she is okay.  I seriously believe one of the adults in that house know something.  If she wandered outside, there is no way she would survive this weather.

  3. I think it is unbelievable they have not pressured the parents (especially the father) for more information.  Some advanced interrogation techniques would likely draw out some more information.  Take both parents in for some interrogation.  Ask them to take a polygraph.  I understand they are not admissible in court.

I see this turning into another Casey Anthony case….likely the father accidentally killed her and disposed of the body.  Figured he would get off just like Casey did…..
