AUBURN, Maine — Police arrested a 47-year-old Mechanic Falls man and reportedly recovered stolen drugs shortly after the Christmas Day robbery of the Rite Aid pharmacy on Minot Avenue.
John Letourneau was held on $1,000 cash bail Sunday night at Androscoggin County Jail.
A man had entered the store and handed pharmacy staff a note demanding drugs, police said in a prepared statement. Once they handed over the requested drugs, the man fled.
Police were called at 3:45 p.m. and collected witness descriptions of the man and his vehicle.
Less than an hour later, Auburn police officer Shawn Carll stopped Letourneau driving in Mechanic Falls.
Letourneau had a weapon with him when he was caught, police Chief Phil Crowell said Sunday.
Letourneau was detained and later charged with robbery.

Rob drug store, escape , caught with weapon by cops.
Arrested.
Bail : $ 1000.
Out on streets again.
Too EZ
Merry Christmas !!
I second the motion. I’m speechless.
Sounds like the bail commissioner was a little too Merry, jus saying…. Maybe time for a new bail commissioner…..his judgement seems off……
I thought most stores were closed on Christmas Day…….especially chain stores of this capacity.
I don’t know if I was more shocked that Rite Aid was opened or at the bail commissioners, judgement?
Christmas Chaos? OR Christmas Miracle. Miracle for him to be getting out on 1,000 bail. If he was robbing me, and he had a weapon; he would be very lucky to escape with his life. These days if I see a weapon, I’m not waiting to see if the criminal is going to use it or not. I’d rather be judged by 12 of my peers then carried by 8.
Agreed,
But often the PD inflates the phrase “weapon”. Under their description everyone carrying a pocket knife would be armed and dangerous. I find it odd that the PD choose not to specify, if it was a gun, pocket knife, pepper spray or a stick.
Especially since he was not charged with Armed Robbery.
I love amateur detectives…You have no idea what you are talking about, yet you insist on pretending.
There is no charge of “armed robbery” in this state…Robbery is Robbery.
True. The only difference between robery charges have to do with the use and intent to use a weapon. The charge of “robery” remains the same, but with different gradients of severity; namely, one is a Class A crime and the other is a Class B crime.
If I see a weapon and I have a weapon I would choose to use mine on him. Again, I will choose to be judged by my peers of 12 then carried by 8. A man or a woman can use their own hands as weapons. I have known people who are very capable of taking a life with their bare hands. If you are robbing me, I’m not waiting for you to assault me or take me down. I’m going to assume that is your next step. I may do prison time, but I will be alive. I have seen too many missing people or deaths. So sad what this world has come to. They need to make a law if you get killed while robbing someone too bad, your loss. You didn’t belong robbing did you? How is a teller to know if you are going to pull a gun or not and shoot her dead. If there is a robbery in place its every man for himself.
Welcome to Maine. We’ll keep the cell door open for ya!
They must have their fix, even on holidays
The Clinics must have been closed for the holiday. LOL
Rite Aid, where the prices are always Low and Right
I think the name of the bail commisioner should be written right next to the amount in these stories. It sure seems like they are keeping it too good of a secret. I searched for the names of any bail commisioners and only found this guy so far. joehanslip.org/biography.html
Are they all politcal hacks? Someone needs to be accountable.
All political hacks. You are correct. They are appointed by district court judges and are usually “friends of the family”, so to speak.
Otis didn’t need Mayberry after all
