BREWER, Maine — Police from Brewer and Bangor are investigation a two-day vandalism spree just before Christmas that left windows smashed at half a dozen local businesses.

The Bangor window smashings occurred sometime between late Dec. 23 and early Dec. 24, Bangor police Lt. Tom Reagan said Tuesday night.

Struck were Miguel’s Mexican Restaurant, Books-A-Million, Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft and Bull Moose, all of which are located in the Bangor Mall area, and Edge Video on Main Street, he said.

Damage estimates at most of those businesses ranged from $1,000 to $1,200, according to police reports, Reagan said.

Sometime the next night, a vandal or vandals struck the McDonald’s restaurant, Brewer police Capt. Jason Moffitt said late Tuesday afternoon.

Moffitt said a dollar estimate for damage was not immediately available. He said a tracking dog from the Bangor Police Department was brought to the Brewer crime scene.

No one has been arrested in connection with the window smashings in either city, according to police.

The two-day window smashing spree is similar to a rash of vandalism that hit Bangor, Brewer and Ellsworth in August.

The suspect in that spree, 58-year-old Jeffrey Howard, was arrested by the Kennebunk Police Department the same month after he was identified from surveillance camera video and images that Ellsworth police posted on their Facebook page and distributed to other law enforcement agencies.

Howard was linked to five window smashing incidents at businesses in Ellsworth as well as broken windows at businesses in Brewer and Bangor that resulted in tens of thousands of dollars in damage.

  1. Ha! Ha! I have a rock and will break your window…

What are these people smoking or ingesting that gives them a desire to run around town and break windows?

What is the pleasure one receives from taking such action?

    1. I believe it is the same thrill that people on here get when they throw slurs and insults at people — who are indeed accused of crimes, but not yet convicted —  at their lowest points in life.

It is a thrill to be a bully, apparently.

      1. First, I do not comment every single day and second I will type the things that people do not want to read. I’m not afraid to stir the pot and tell the truth and a lot of people don’t like that. Nobody is forced to read anything I type.

  2. It’s probably time for the  Bangor PD to look at the local glass companies.  I find it interesting that there are so many people in this area that are interested in smashing expensive plate glass and so many local glass companies with slow business.

    1. Interesting…….wouldn’t those things that make no sense,   make perfect sense to those who have no sense at all?.     I like it.

    2. Or it’s the same crazy guy that hit Bangor and Ellsworth last time…Pretty sure doesn’t even work, much less for a glass company..

    3. I’m surprised you didn’t blame Lepage. I happen to think it is part of Obama’s job creation package.

      1. thanks for respondning to me on the missing baby article!  I agreed with everything you said!!!  Would’ve responded there but it was shut down…thanks again

  3. It’s probably Howard again. He is all over town– he was loitering in the store where I work last week. Other people saw him in the bookstores near the mall the day before this vandalism. This guy has to be dealt with seriously. He is harming local business, scaring away customers and distracting police officers. Heck, he was arrested just three weeks ago after vandalizing Eastern Maine Community College. Can’t someone lock him up for longer than a weekend?

  4. You know, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was Jeffrey Howard that was behind this again.  That guy is already facing 5 years in jail for the string of vandalism that happened this past summer.  I’m surprised with all the businesses hit in the Bangor Mall area that he didn’t chuck another rock through the window at Wendy’s where I work.  BAM is just right next door.  It would be interesting to see who REALLY was responsible for this latest act of vandalism.  I guess we’ll find out soon.
