AUGUSTA, Maine — Maine’s average heating oil cost has dropped slightly over the past week as temperatures remained unseasonably warm.
Maine energy officials say the average price in Tuesday’s oil dealer survey was $3.57 per gallon, which is down 2 pennies from last week.
Ken Fletcher of the Governor’s Office of Energy Independence and Security said prices probably will rise regardless of weather because of growing consumer confidence. That’s expected to boost energy demand in the new year.
The highest prices in the survey were in the north at $3.80 and the lowest prices were $3.20 in southwestern Maine.

US Hit by 12 Weather Events Exceeding $1 Billion in Losses
Billion-dollar weather disasters smash US record
The Associated Press, Dec. 7, 2011
WASHINGTON — America smashed the record for billion-dollar weather disasters this year with a deadly dozen — and counting.
With
an almost biblical onslaught of twisters, floods, snow, drought and
wildfire, the U.S. in 2011 has seen more weather catastrophes that
caused at least $1 billion in damage than it did in all of the 1980s,
even after the dollar figures from back then are adjusted for inflation.
So what’s your point?
LOL
How much did ExxonMobile make each of those years in profit? And what percentage of that number was Mr. Tillerson’s compensenation package? Im not even going to address the global-scamming..err warming issue, but I am curious to know what you have against paying the man or woman responsible for making the shareholders of ExxonMobile rich a very decent salary? Is it that you think you could step in and do Mr. Tillerson’s job for a lot less? Or is it just plain liberal envy? This is similar to those who oppose paying professional athletes the money they make. That argument fails to consider two points. The athletes (and the CEO’s ) are very highly skilled at what they do. And they make the teams (or company) a heck of a lot of money. So again, why is it wrong for a very highly skilled person to receive a lot of money for that skill?
Do you think he can get by on that $22.4 million ?
Well just call your buddy Joe Kennedy and he will hook you up with some free socialist state-owned Valero oil from Venezuela. I mean, it’s obviously from the pure goodness of Hugo Chavez’ cancerous heart.
Wow 2 cents lower….wait until next week, they will hike it 14 cents higher…
Should be a few dollars cheaper. Why is the government letting this happen. CEO 22.4 Million Dollar Salary!! How about his Quarterly Bonuses which exceed his Yearly Salary!!
Oh thank you oil companies. Your gererosity in this season of giving is inspiring. A true example of beneficence to show the world. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
