OLD TOWN – Virginia M. Thurston, 80, died peacefully Dec. 26, 2011, surrounded by family. She was born Aug. 9, 1931, in Orono, a daughter of Alton and Mary (Kimball) Moore.
She graduated from Orono High School, class of 1950, as a member of the National Honor Society. She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary and Cooties. At one time in her life she owned and operated a local market. She was a loving wife and mother. She was an active member of Stillwater Federated Church and was a member of Friends of Stillwater Church. She enjoyed making pies, and helping at the bean suppers and craft fairs. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, wood working crafts, swimming and camping. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband.
She is survived by five children, Rebecca Halloran and her husband, George, of Glenburn, Robert Thurston Jr. and his wife, Caroline, of Colchester, Conn., Brent Thurston and his significant other, Lisa Worth, of Fort Pierce, Fla., Brian Thurston and his wife, Joyce, of Bradley and Guy Thurston and his wife, Connie, of Jacksonville, Fla.; 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren with one more on the way; one brother, Jerome Moore of Dixmont; many nieces, nephews and extended family. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Robert Thurston Sr., in 2009; and a brother, Alton Moore.
