PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — A public workshop to explain Gov. Paul LePage’s budget proposal that includes major cuts in MaineCare has been moved to Northern Maine Community College to accommodate a larger crowd than anticipated.

Wednesday’s workshop was moved from The Gathering Place. Thursday’s meeting will be at the Houlton Higher Education Center.

On Tuesday, more than 200 people turned out for a workshop in Fort Kent, also attended by LePage. WAGM-TV says many were concerned about cutting funds for private nonmedical institutions, or PNMIs.

LePage said Medicaid cuts are needed to avoid running out of money by April 1. Democratic state Rep. John Martin of Eagle Lake said there may be another way to keep the PNMIs funded.

The workshops are organized by the Aroostook Area Agency on Aging.

  1. Hopefully somebody will bring a video camera, so that we can watch his latest blunder live.  He’s sure to say something mind-blowing.

    1. Ya, something like “just because you are single and permanently in a wheel chair doesn’t mean that your disabled, it means that you are  a PNMI, so stop complaining and take your medicine……that we aren’t going to help you with anymore”

  2. Criticize him all you want; at least he has the courage to face his voters. Democrats would run from these events; or stack the audience with the party faithful.

    1. courage to face his voters,   and then lie to them?   Wow, now THATs an achievement.  The only courage he has demonstrated to me that he had the unmitigated gall to say that Forbes Magazine decided that welfare is the reason for the state’s business ranking.  You haven’t heard from him on that one now have you?

He’s a bully, and a thug.  He certainly doesn’t have the courage to stay in one spot long enough to hear from his critics.   He is going to have his hands full in Aroostook County,   John Martin will tear him up.

    2. Heck the only reason LePage is “facing his voters” is so he can insult them.  His disposition lives on belittling people.
