DEDHAM, Maine — Driver inattention on the part of one of the drivers was cited as the likely cause of a three-vehicle crash Thursday that sent three people to the hospital.

The accident happened shortly after 4:45 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. Route 1A and Pine Trail, according to Trooper Greg Mitchell of the Maine State Police.

Michelle Taylor, 47, of Dedham was stopped at the intersection waiting to make a turn from Route 1A onto Pine Trail when her 2000 Toyota van was struck from behind by a 2011 Ford Mustang driven by Micah Wall, 23, of Orono, Mitchell said.

The impact of that crash sent Taylor’s van into the path of an eastbound 2005 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by 55-year-old William Jackson of Lubec, Mitchell said, adding that Jackson’s truck also collided with Wall’s vehicle.

All three drivers were taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, where they were treated for injuries not considered to be life-threatening, Mitchell said. He said Wall, who was not wearing a seat belt, suffered a head injury. The two other drivers reportedly were wearing seat belts when the accident happened.

All three vehicles were demolished, he said. He said inattention on the part of Wall appeared to be a factor in the accident, which prompted the temporary closure of U.S. Route 1A. Alcohol and speed are not believed to have played a role.

  1. So glad the injuries were relatively minor! Hopefully, the driver whose attention was somewhere other than the road, has learned a VALUABLE lesson from this!

  2. Gotta stop playin’ bumper cars, don’t we folks? The winter has barely started.
Happy they all went home (albeit carless), but one person’s slack-off ruining the day for others is a common cause all too often.  Glad I’m not doing the paperwork!

    1. He could have been doing the posted speed limit, he just didn’t use the brakes (Hence driver inattention) and rammed the back of the stopped vehicle.

  3. A 2011 mustang?  Guess whos footing the bill for replacement of vehicles.  Mr. Wall is now a even higher risk to his insurer, also they will be paying for the other 2 vehicles.  A 2011 vehicle will have to carry full coverage.

    1. Liability coverage is required by law on all vehicles and is what would pay for the damage to the other two vehicles. Full coverage is usually only required if you have a bank loan on the car and would pay for the damage to the Mustang. If the car was owned outright it would be up to the owner whether s/he carried full coverage.

      1. So you think this 23 year old will be rich enough to have money to outright own a 2011 car?  If his insurance rates were not high before, they will be astronomical now.

  4. Well Downeasta, hopefully this person has insurance ,not a card that says they do, but only made a down payment and let it cancel, like happened to me when i got stuck with 40,000 in med. bills, plus loss of my truck ,dont bother suing folks, waste  of time, they just file bankruptcy and go to spring break in Florida. The state gives them back their license as soon as the filing clears and they go on their merry way. What a joke !

    1. Yeah that happened to me once, guy gave the responding officer a canceled insurance card. Then when I went back to the police to get some answers they said there was nothing they could do. 3 grand down the drain for my parked car being hit.

  5. Thank god all are alive…bad things happpen on that road, like so many more..One more thing that a lot of people do..Do Not turn your wheels while your settin waitin to turn, there is a good chance that the on coming truck wouldn’t have hit the young woman..not sayin her wheels were cut,but most of the time that is what causes a car to shoot across the line and get hit by an on coming car/truck

    1. and where would the vehicle have ended up if the wheels were straight?  most of the time what causes a car to shoot across the line is someone hitting it from behind.

      1. Generally speaking a vehicle will travel in the direction it’s front tires are pointed, whether it was propelled by its own engine or that of the vehicle that just slammed into it.

    1. why wasn’t anything mentioned about the passengers in the cars?
one was a cancer patient trying to return back home, and is now still in brewer with cracked ribs
