PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Investigators with the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency executed a search warrant at a U.S. Route 1 apartment Thursday afternoon after coming to suspect that methamphetamine was being manufactured there.

Details still were emerging Thursday evening, but Darrell Crandall, an MDEA division commander, said agents arrived at the apartment around 2 p.m.

The agency’s Laboratory Response Team was searching the building, which sits right on Main Street. Part of the route was blocked off as agents in orange protective gear searched the dwelling. The Presque Isle police and fire departments and Crown Ambulance personnel also were on the scene.

Crandall said significant evidence of methamphetamine manufacturing had been found at the residence and that sampling of that evidence was under way. Evidence will be taken to the Health and Environmental Testing Laboratory in Augusta for chemical analysis.

Crandall added that neighbors were not in danger and had not been evacuated. A number of onlookers pulled into the parking lots of stores and businesses along that busy stretch of Main Street to watch the action.

Agents secured the apartment shortly after midnight Wednesday and obtained a search warrant. The agency’s lab team members converged from around the state and conducted a briefing at the Presque Isle Public Safety Building around noon and then proceeded to the apartment — which sits just across from McDonald’s — to begin the search.

Crandall said the occupants of the apartment were not home but had been interviewed by MDEA agents. No suspects have yet been charged

  1. What?? No arest yet? More poison off the streets I hope. I hope they can get them in jail. I hope they didnt educate them for the next lab they set up in the next town.

  2. What morons….main street across from McDonald’s?  They obviously don’t know the police department is right up the road.  Must be out-of-town renters.  There was an obvious meth house rental not far from there not too long ago…….residential neighborhood, bunch of young kids outside smoking all day with pitbulls, traffic galore…..so obvious.  Throw away the key.

    1. Kids smoking and pitbulls equates to “an obvious meth house”??? Nice work Columbo, I’m sure you called the cops on that one…

      1. Didn’t have to call the cops, Angela Lansbury….someone obviously beat me to it, house was surrounded with five or six cop cars not too long ago and all of the tenants moved right after.

    2. Morons is right. The house was not across from McDonalds!!!!  The area across from McDonalds is a VACANT LOT!!!  The house was across from Jordan Street with businesses on either side of Jordan Street. Can’t anyone get their facts straight.  Research before you print or make assumptions instead of making the story sound good. McDonalds is quite a ways down the road.

      1.  I stood under the golden arches and watched, dude. Me and 30 others. Sure seemed like I was in McDonalds.
(But that really IS the most important part of the article. Its not the bust itself)

      2. LOL really ok so its not straight across from McDs its diagonally across from McDs.. Who cares, its still across the street people come on.

    3. It was not across from Mcdonalds. there is nothing across from Mcdonalds. It was across from H&R Block about 500 yards north of Mcdonalds.

  3. I assume it wasn’t a meth lab then if “Crandall added that neighbors were not in danger and had not been evacuated.” Because I’m under the understand that it is VERY DANGER’S.  If it was a meth lab I would hope that neighbors and anyone living or working near by would have been evacuated.
Ohh my, did I make a mistake. I’m sorry Mr MountainMan it should have been DANGEROUS. How silly of me..Thank you. But you know I would much rather have an error in my writing then an error in where the SAFETY of others is at risk, HUGH RISK at that. Now that Mountainman is much more important!

    1.  “Because I’m under the understand that it is VERY DANGER’S.” Pretty clear you have little understanding which is probably why Crandall didn’t call you for advice for evacuation procedures!
