STANDISH, Maine — A municipal employee in Maine is facing charges that he repeatedly filled up his personal vehicle from a town gas pump in Standish and altered the fuel logs to make it appear the fuel was going into Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department vehicles.

The sheriff’s department said Thursday that 49-year-old William Rice of Standish has been charged with theft and aggravated forgery.

Officials say the charges stem from an audit of fuel records that showed more than 200 gallons of fuel unaccounted for since August. The pump is located at the town’s public safety building.

    1. Im sure he will be out on PAID LEAVE. You and I would be down and out, fired. We are cavilians, as we should be if we are steeling. STRING HIM UP, let the town tax payers serve him up his justice!

  1. Aggravated Forgery…aggravated at the cost of being ripped off at the pump these days so had to steal it and forge some records, good call.

  2. I’d feel pretty good about this if I was a taxpayer in the town of Standish. Some much bigger cities don’t pay as much attention, and get nailed for much bigger losses than 200 gallons of fuel.

    1. Theft under a thousand, he will never do a day in jail. Being tossed out into the world of the unemployed will be punishment enough these days. Pretty dumb on his part.

  3. I used to work for a logging contractor who had the same thing going on. Until, he had a camera installed that pointed at his fuel tank. Stopped the thefts over night.
