To look at him, Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul seems harmless. He’s cute and contrarian. He wears poorly fitting suits. He’s decidedly unslick. You almost want to pat him on the head.
So we’re not supposed to criticize Dr. Paul as a nut job who subscribes to some rather wacky ideas. And “subscribe” is the operative word here, folks: The newsletters Dr. Paul published for nearly two decades during the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s are chock full of racist, homophobic and anti-new world order rants.
From Dr. Paul now comes the nuttiest claim of all. He wants us to believe newsletters published with the titles Ron Paul’s Freedom Report; Ron Paul Political Report; and, weirdest of all, The Ron Paul Survival Report, do not reflect the views of, um, Ron Paul. He says he never wrote them, never even read them, and now disavows them. (Question: Why disavow words you neither wrote nor read?)
Nice try, congressman. There’s his name in giant, bold letters at the top of each issue. On some editions his face appears at the top, or his signature at the bottom. The lack of bylines attached to specific articles, his defenders say, means Dr. Paul can’t be held accountable for the words they contain. But the newsletters include first-person, biographical mentions such as “my wife Carol” and “my youngest son … starting his fourth year of medical school.” His wife’s name is Carol; his youngest son, Robert, is a physician.
Even if surrogates actually wrote the material for Dr. Paul, so what? When politicians authorize press secretaries and ghostwriters to pen their statements, speeches and books, it is universally understood that the politician whose name appears atop the stationery or on the jacket cover is accountable. Once those newsletters went in the mail, Dr. Paul owned every word they contained — period.
What’s in them? Four years ago, during Dr. Paul’s first bid for the Republican presidential nomination, The New Republic’s James Kirchick dug through state libraries, found old copies and took an inventory. “What (the newsletters) reveal are decades worth of obsession with conspiracies, sympathy for the right-wing militia movement, and deeply held bigotry against blacks, Jews and gays,” Kirchick concluded. “In short, they suggest that Ron Paul is not the plain-speaking antiwar activist his supporters believe they are backing — but rather a member in good standing of some of the oldest and ugliest traditions in American politics.”
Is Dr. Paul also not responsible for his votes in the House of Representatives, like the one he cast in 2004 on a resolution commemorating the 40th anniversary of the landmark Civil Rights Act of 1964 that guaranteed equal access to the ballot and public facilities for all Americans? The final roll call was 414 ayes, one nay. A free subscription to The Ron Paul Survival Report for anyone who can guess the name of the lone dissenter.
None of Dr. Paul’s radical beliefs would really matter if the Texas congressman were slogging around in fifth or sixth place in the Republican primary. But he isn’t. His poll numbers are rising . He might win the Iowa caucuses next week.
Dr. Paul projects a mild manner and policy humility. He wants to reign in federal spending. He wants the government, and in particular its military industrial complex, to control its imperialist impulses. He’d like America to protect its core civil liberties. (Unless, of course, you happen to be pregnant.)
But don’t let Dr. Paul’s impish, avuncular and professorial style fool you. He’s arguably the most megalomaniacal candidate in a 2012 Republican field that includes Newt Gingrich. And he’s trying to squirm out of taking responsibility for his writings.
I now brace myself for the torrent of emails from Dr. Paul’s vigilant supporters. When those emails arrive, I shall adopt the Ron Paul Defense: Despite my name at the top of this column, I’m so busy lately I can’t remember for sure whether I wrote all the words in this column, nor did I read them before or after the column went to press. So I can’t be held responsible for calling their guy the racist, anti-gay conspiracist he is.
Thomas F. Schaller teaches political science at the University of Maryland Baltimore County. His email is schaller@gmail.com. He wrote this for the Baltimore Sun.

So we’re not supposed to criticize Dr. Paul as a nut job who subscribes to some rather wacky ideas.
How is it that they all seem to flock to the republican party?
Wait–wait–All holders of wacky ideas are in the R party????? ROFLMFAO.
You can’t scrutinize any Republicans, otherwise you’re just a victim of the liberal media bias’ brainwashing! Of course.
Your own batch has nuts aplenty including Al Franken, Al Sharpton, Al Gore, Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank, Keith Olberman, Kwisti Matthews, Bill Maher, and on and on and on…
They don’t hold a candle to this bigot and denier.
Ron Paul overwhelmingly leads in support from the troops! Help this
pro-Ron Paul article go completely viral! Spread it all over the
internet and social networks! Denver Conspiracy Examiner’s, “Support the
Troops by Supporting Ron Paul” http://www.examiner.com/conspiracy-in-denver/support-the-troops-by-supporting-ron-paul
Of course they support him!!!
He believes under no circumstance we should go to war in foriegn countries!
What better than to join the service with NO threat to life and limb and lally gag around at the Tax Payers expense.
Have a little respect! The man is riding shotgun in the Republican clown car. You know, the car with the Obama 2012 bumper sticker.
Rather than be annoyed by this I’m just going to ask you Mr. Schaller, who exactly should I be voting for in your opinion? All the other republican candidate are idiots, lets be honest. Gingrich is annoying and a political has been (thankfully). Rick Perry could be GW2’s brother, and Romney changes opinion more then I change the channel (which is often since I do it during every commercial). Oh wait let me guess. You think we should have Obama for another four years right? But wait, isn’t he the one who attended a church ministered by the racist revered Wright? And wasn’t he friends with an admitted terrorist who was involved with a terrorist act on US soil?…..If we’re going to throw around ‘facts’, you may want to stop omitting the ones that don’t fit your opinion. Man, what I wouldn’t do for an actual opinion piece where someone does some research and lays out all the information for people to base their decisions on!
Oh…but Obama can’t be held to the same standard as a Republican politician. His past is not relevant because he wears nice-fitting suits and speaks so eloquently.
Obama may have attended a church, but in this case Paul is the racist minister. But I forgot we have a double standard, we get to judge Obama by things that we believe he saw, but we can’t judge Republicans on things they do.
I like Ron Paul’s idea of stopping foreign aid and bringing our troops home to America. Let the UN protect the world, that’s their job. Other than that he is a typical republican.
Not even close to typical republican.
On the other hand, Paul is the only ‘hopeful’ who has plans for making real cuts in the size of the federal government. Since runaway (and corrupt) federal power is the real problem we face, doesn’t that make him the only serious candidate in either major party? Electing an unlikeable ‘kook’ who does what we need instead of some Dr. Feelgood who jollies us along over the cliff may be the less foolish choice.
I partially agree with your perspective, but the only problem is that this ‘kook’ has no allies in Congress. Congress believes he is a kook and therefore, they will not give anything he suggests any credence. He has always been dismissed and will be continued to be dismissed.
Fair enough, but an electorate that put Paul in the White House would probably put others sympathetic to him into Congress. And power buys allies, anyway. Enough to make a difference? Good question.
I appreciate your giving some thought to my views (unlike another person on this thread). And I do agree with you that it might be possible to build Paul’s alliance IF he were elected ( be it ever so slim). I just hope it doesn’t result in a similar Tea Party vote-in after-effect. That strategy back fired on them in some ways.
Ron Paul 2012
FINALLY someone is exposing Ron Paul as he truly is! I must admit that some of Paul’s ideas sound good (e.g. no wars, and no income taxes) to many people but they are idealistic and NOT realistic! His other ideas like eliminating SS and Medicare, converting paper money to gold standard, and abolishing the Roe vs Wade decision which in effect eliminates a very personal right of women, will do serious harm to the American people. I fervently hope his supporters will get their heads out of the sand and see him as the person he really is. Do you really want a person who aligns himself with the John Birch Society, an extremist organization, to lead our country? I, for one, do not!
Obama 2012
Who do you work for?
Roe vs wade? Lies.
Gold standard? The only legitimate way to do business. As of now. Our dollars are worthless.
It’s all very realistic. If you understood how this country was supposed to operate.
Back to your ” job”
You must live in a fantasy land right along with Ron Paul.
And how is Roe vs Wade a lie? Paul stated outright that it is his mission, if elected, to repeal Roe vs Wade.
I do not lie.
and obama said he would close our base in cuba, and end the war, and make friends with iran.
just cause he said it does not mean it will happen. but having the debate would not be the worst thing to happen.
obama’s reelection ? well that would be the worst thing for americans.
At least Obama works hard at trying to keep all the promises he made during his campaign to get elected. According to the PoliFact (http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/promises/obameter/) who tracks political promises, he has kept 159 and is working towards completion of 176 more! The promises broken, like increasing taxes on the wealthy to name the latest, were the results of the Republican party obstructionist tactics and their desire to cater only to the rich. And I must add, if you think Obama had a tough time with Congress, just wait and see what happens IF Paul is elected. That is why I consider his ideas idealistic because they will NOT be accepted by this Congress or any future legislative body. Of the 620 bills sponsored by Ron Paul during his long career in the House of Representatives, only four have ever made it to a vote on the House floor and only one of those became an actual law. People are just dreaming if they think his proposed changes will be implemented and accepted.
Obama is a joke. A lying war mongering hypocrite.
He intensified Bush’s war machine with glee. Stop. You’re embarrassing yourself.
I’m sorry but I think YOU are embarrassing YOURSELF with your attacks on me.
Sorry but this Obama apologist bs is very very tired and extremely annoying.
Total denial of reality.
With glee?? I think NOT! He voted against invading Iraq and withdrew the troops as he had promised during his campaign.
What? He has bragged about killing people when threatened by the press.
YouTube the video from a makeshift hospital in tripoli where there are children screaming, some with no arms, some with massive head wounds, all from a drone attack. Worth it huh?
He should be in jail for what he did in Libya. How about fast and furious? drugs and guns? eh, look the other way.
Iraq? I love that one. The country we invaded because they weren’t involved with 9/11 and didn’t have WMD’s? That Iraq? The one we STILL have over ten thousand ” contractors ” in (withdrew? Really?)
How about his murdering a us citizen via a drone attack? Or
Afghanistan?
Gitmo?
Patriot act?
Indefinite detention of us citizens?
And on and on
Please read christopher hedges ” the death of the liberal class”.
Or YouTube a lecture of his dealing with that theme.
I thought I was a liberal too once
and then you stopped thinking
Yeah.ok.
Illegal wars.
Just signed NDAA. ( thanks)
Fast and furious. ( drugs and guns)
Etc.
Etc.
And I’m not thinking. Ok.
It’s an odd form of ” liberalism ” you prescribe to. But, I guess when you you surrender your right to free thought by buying into the two party paradigm farce you don’t know any better. After all, When you defend a guy who calls himself a liberal and constitutional scholar and then that guy completely defies those things, well….
sorry laddie,I never surrender to a right wing whacko, either politician or poster–
Great answer. Now you don’t have to acknowledge the reality of fast and furious and NDAA.
And I am not a ” right wing whacko’.
Whacko? Maybe? But I don’t play rigged games. Like the two party one.
I happen to think there are usually more than just two solutions or points of view to a problem or issue.
You’re right, he did state that he’d end Roe v Wade. However, when pointing out the facts you should also include that Dr. Paul has stated that it’s not a federal issue it’s a state issue. His point, and they’re being well received, is that it’s not the feds job to be involved. Want Roe V Wade, make it a law in your state. Don’t want it, vote it down. The governments job is not to be involved unless it’s a constitution issue. I understand that for many abortion is is the big issue for them and I’d never take away from that. For me, honestly it’s tricky because I see some, and I do mean some pros and cons to each but it’s still a state issue. In Maine I’d hope we have vote for the option to keep it just as I hope we pass the marriage bill in the next election. Freedom is what I want and Dr. Paul presents the best option for that.
I do understand your point of view but I worry that some states (like Maine) are entrenched in conservative, evangelical views and do not think about women’s rights or other personal liberties. Did we not vote in LePage as our governor and who has been a total embarrassment to the state and did we not vote down the marriage bill–another personal right? I firmly believe the Supreme Court is well-versed in making considered decisions of this magnitude. I will leave it in their hands. What is fair to one should be fair to all!
We have so much more to be concerned with right now other than abortion.
And comparing lepage to Paul is highly irresponsible.
Compare LePage to Paul?? I did not! I was stating that we shouldn’t leave important legislation in the hands of the states! Important laws and regulations should be for one and for all! I believe in the intellect of the Supreme Court over the small minds of some people in this state . I used the example of voting in LePage as governor as proof of what could happen if we left voting on important issues to the state! In my mind, anyone who voted for LePage did not do enough thinking and we are now paying for that. I trust in people who are knowledgeable and wise and educated! And most importantly, what is decided at a national level is fair and equal for all!
We absolutely should leave it to states to decide. Look at what happens when the “federal” govt decides—–the corproations win! They have the money. It is that simple.
You say you trust these guys? Knowledgable? About what? they have no idea what they’re doing! You trust them… No wonder.
And still no answer as to why Obama and his policies mirror George bush’s?
I agree…we need to be concerned about Paul’s foreign policy! His isolationist policies are dangerous and very disturbing. There ARE evil people all over the world…one can not ignore this fact and pretend all will be well if we simply ignore them, as Ron Paul thinks we can. I wish we could pull ALL the troops home as he wants but that again is idealistic and potentially very dangerous to the security of our country! So as you can now see, I do have concerns above and beyond the social issues. But it IS the social issues he wishes to hide so they need to be exposed.
Again, no. If you listen to corporate media than I get it. They have you convinced there are evil american hating radical islamists that want to eat your babies. Again, nope.
Think for yourself much?
sorry. But I don’t play that game. Propaganda from the military war machine.
You really think people all over the world aren’t fed up with our imperialistic actions?
Indefinite detentions? Drone killings? War after war. Ya think maybe, oh, I don’t know, that’s the problem?
And thank Barry for signing the NDAA bill. Real constitutional scholar. We are truly a fascist state now. But don’t worry about your rights be afraid of al quaeda who we created! Thanks for ushering in the end of america
Not even worth a reply.
What dont you get about the fact that Obama and Bush represent the same powers?
Seriously?
Time to pick someone who doesn’t represent corporate america and the international banking cartels.
Nope. The gold standard IS the only way back to finanacial stability. The way it was intended and the way it was until 1913. I would love to hear your argument for the non federal federal reserve who are to blame for the current financial crisis.
Roe V Wade. http://www.ronpaul2012.com/the-issues/abortion/
First of all, I don’t get caught up in emotional topics like abortion. The abortion argument works to sidetrack other more relevant issues. WHich is why they love bringing it up.
ROn Paul was an OBGYN you know? So, i’ll listen to the guy who delivered thousands of babies before I listen to some right wing sheep. Sorry, I don’t find it that important right now–we have much more pressing concerns.
Paul wants to follow our constitution and stop giving billions to Israel. Of course now the corporate press is trying to label him an anti semite. Which is truly amazing. We have no busineess giving Israel an army. We have more than enough to fix right here!!
SO , no, i am not some tee vee head who listens to Brian Williams or Chris Matthews. I dont believe the lies they try and sell. You obviously do.
So all you got is roe v. wade? You dont care about the economy, myriad wars, printing fiat currency, indefinite detention of us citizens, the ‘patriot’ act, out of control TSA, Obama trading guns and drugs in Mexico, etc. etc. and on and on…But someone mentions Roe V Wade and look out…
BTW, more us troops committed suicide in the last two years than were killed in combat.
Paul wants to follow his version of the Constitution, it has no basis in reality of what the constitution actually says, just what he believes it does.
For example……..????
For example he believes that the state has the right to limit the freedom of speech (burning of the American Flag). He believes that states should have the right to tell two consenting adults they are not entitled to all of the rights of other adults, this extends to the right of the state to restrict interracial marriage (carrying his logic to the extreme). He doesn’t acknowledge how this violates the 14th Amendment (which based on his racist news letter really doesn’t matter much to him). He is selectively a Constitutionalist. He picks and chooses what he wants to believe without any real bearing on what the document and the amendments say.
Uh, he believes in states rights. Yup. It’s up to the people to decide the rest. But you’ve already made that decision for us.
You’re accusing him of being racist in an attempt at trying to prove he selectively sticks to the constitution? That 14th amendment accusation is a stretch. And citing those racist newsletters was an issue that was cleared up in 2008. Come on. All you can do is try and play the race card based on something he never wrote? How exactly does he want to limit free speech? And why?
He has acknowledged wanting to get rid of the 14th amendment. Clearly it is part of the constitution, and the man who loves the constitution so much wants to get rid of it? What sense does that make? It is his selective love of the constitution. He really doesn’t know much about it. The funny part is, he wants to get rid of the 14th amendment to get rid of birth right citizenship, and that isn’t even in the 14th, birthright citizenship in this country dates back to the 18th century, the 14th wasn’t passed until the last half of the 19th. He has a fifth graders knowledge of the Constitution, couple that with his first grade brain and you have a powerful combination of stupid and ignorant.
Thanks for trying to educate “anyonebutthem” and hanging in there against her bravado…nice to have someone besides me who sees Paul as he truly is.
What are you talking about everything you’ve said is proven wrong, misquoted or taken out of context?
Proven wrong? Only according to your biased thinking …
Did you read the CNN interview I just posted? Or anything else?
You don’t lie? Maybe?
You certainly believe in many of them though.
I believe in lies? It is YOU who must if you truly believe that Ron Paul is NOT a racist and a homophobe! He most certainly is! This article speaks the truth! Your candidate is lying between his teeth just to keep the votes when he says he was not aware of the statements in HIS newsletters. He was the editor! How could he not read what was written, if in fact he had a ghost writer writing for him? And please do not compare him to Obama and the Rev. Wright. (I know that’s coming…) This comparison does not hold water…to compare his written word which he was fully aware of to and which he published as his own to someone sitting in a church listening to a sermon that he did not write is absurd.
Simply, no.
He didn’t write it. Didn’t edit it. Didn’t know about it.
This is so 2008.
Move on.
He didn’t know about it?!! Wrong! And, Yes, it might be 2012, but he is the same man..a liar and a racist. You AND Paul AND his followers apparently are the people in complete denial here. The facts have been checked and “Paul’s denials, however, are not supported by the public record. When
the newsletters first arose as an issue in 1996, Paul didn’t deny
authorship. Instead, Paul personally repeated and defended some of the
most incendiary racial claims in the newsletters.” And now he uses a blanket denial. “Paul has never explained how this blanket denial squares with his vigorous defense of the writings in 1996.” Furthermore, he has said and done more that proves his bigotry. These facts on his disturbing ideology are reported here, including his comments and his legislative record— beyond the writings in his newsletters: http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2011/12/27/395391/fact-check-ron-paul-personally-defended-racist-newsletters/ You and all of the Paul supporters need to open your eyes and mind to the truth that this man is NOT what he tries to portray!
Hahaha! Ok…
http://rt.com/usa/news/mainstream-media-campaign-paul-477/
http://rt.com/usa/news/poll-ron-paul-iowa-857/
http://www.infowars.com/gingrich-linked-propagandist-recycles-debunked-racist-ron-paul-smear/
So that’s where you get all your misinformation!!— from a RUSSIAN news outfit and even worse than that…from Alex Jones !!! who is far worse than FAUX News ever thought of being?? No wonder your ignorance shows so clearly.
RT carries more relevant news than any other us news source. Unfortunately.
But, like I said, when a handfull of companies owns all the media the media no longer are the media. They are an extension of the corporate propaganda machine. It’s truly sad.
By the way, your going to attack rt and jones after citing the George soros backed thinkprogress? Really? The very same website that is connected to Obama via
John podesta, head of Obama’s presidential transition team? Who also worked for Clinton!
RT is by no means the undisputed truth. However, there is more truth in their coverage. Have you ever watched it? Forbes just listed rt’s the alyona show as one to watch. Don’t throw opinions around without veryfying what you’re saying. Though I understand where you get that habit.
Alex jones? He’s a nut job. But again, more truth coming from him than Disney, er, I mean abc.or GE, I mean NBC….Did you read those articles?
OK…so how do you defend Paul’s statement made just today on CNN this morning when he was asked about his opposition to the 1964 Civil Rights Act. He said the country was “better off with Jim Crow
laws.” Jim Crows laws!!??? The rigid anti-Black laws that states used to enforce segregation! That is why he wants the states to have the power. Thank God for the Civil Rights Act which he is so adamantly opposed to! And you still say he is not a racist…You really need to start thinking!
This is exactly my point. Corporate media conveniently editing sound bites. Did you listen to the whole interview exchange? If you had you may realize he is most certainly not a racist. You do realize how govt works?
CROWLEY: Let me ask you, you have addressed a lot of these complaints about past writings that were at least under your name, but that you said you had no knowledge of and didn’t write. But there was one thing that caught my eye, when I was looking through some of the briefing books.
And it was something that was in the Congressional Record that you inserted into the Congressional Record from June of 2004. And I wanted to talk to you about it. You said, contrary to the claims of the supporters of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the act did not improve race relations or enhance freedom.
Instead, the forced integration dictated by the Civil Rights Act of 1964 increased racial tensions while diminishing individual liberty. So my question to you is, whose individual liberty did it diminish? And do you think the country would have been better off in terms of race relations without the Civil Rights Act of 1964?
PAUL: Well, we just could have — we could have done it a better way because the Jim Crow laws, obviously had to get rid of and we’re all better off for that. And that is an important issue, so I strongly supported that.
What you don’t want to do is undermine the concept of liberty in that process. And what they did in that bill was they destroyed the principle of private property and private choices.
So if you do this, all civil liberties are protected by property rights, where it’s your TV stations — that’s a piece of property — or whether it’s the newspaper, whether it’s the church building, or whether it’s the bedroom. This is something that people don’t quite understand, that civil liberties aren’t divorced from property. So if you try to improve relationships by forcing and telling people what they can’t do, and you ignore and undermine the principles of liberty, then the government can come into our bedrooms. And that’s exactly what has happened.
Look at what’s happened with the PATRIOT Act. They can come into our houses, our bedrooms our businesses. And so the principle private property has been in their mind. And it was started back then.
But they can’t twist that and say that I was against or favored Jim Crow laws or anything else. I mean, it’s the government that causes so much of the racial tensions, when you look at anything from slavery on down to segregation in the military and the Jim Crow laws.
And right now, the real problem we face today is the discrimination in our court system, the war on drugs. Just think of how biased that is against the minorities. They go into prison much way out of proportion to their numbers. They get the death penalty out of proportion with their numbers.
And if you look at what minorities suffer in ordinary wars, whether there’s a draft or no draft, they suffer much out of proposition. So those are the kind of things of discrimination that have to be dealt with, but you don’t ever want to undermine the principle of private property and private choices in order to solve some of these problems.
You need to repeal the very, very bad laws that governments have propagated over the many centuries, because it is the government, so often, that institutionalized segregation and slavery and all the other things.
So the understanding of private property would solve our problems. And we indeed need to look at the war on drugs, if anybody cares about the — about the abuse of our civil liberties and the abuse of minorities in the court system.”
And in reference to your earlier accusation about my opinion on rev wright and Barry ? Again, you are way off.
http://www.truthdig.com/report/item/the_rev_jeremiah_wright_recalls_obamas_fall_from_grace_20110919/
Jones certianly carries more real info than fox ever could.
And, keep in mind, no doubt one of your heroes, Hillary Clinton even said of RT’s counterpart al Jazeera that such news agencies are winning the information war.
Watch an episode of rt USA news. Not rt international. And compare that to any us news cast. Not even close. Check out the anlyona show. The real deal.
You really believe everything they tell you huh?
Obviously you believe everything that Paul sputters forth. So how do you defend these facts: In 1999, he was the only member of Congress to oppose the issuing on a Congressional Gold Medal to Rosa Parks. In May 2011, Ron Paul said in an interview that he opposes the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
And, again, aside from parrotting the lamestream medias attempt at a smear campaign do you have anything else?
How about Barry’s signing NDAA ? Thanks mr constitution
Fast and furious? Barry and holder caught with drugs and money?
But that’s not important. Let’s pretend Ron Paul is a raving anti semite racist instead
And you must live in a fantasy world if you dont see Obama and his policies are worse than W’s!! Hello!!!
Newsflash–just because he has dark skin and is a “democrat” doesn’t mean ANYTHING!!!
you and the rest of his apologists have been had. Which I think you realize but for some reason can’t admit. Maybe admitting that would be admitting the two party system is a joke and a lie?
His ideas are idealistic and they are NOT realistic because as I have stated before, they will NOT be accepted by this
Congress or any future legislative body. Why do I say this? BECAUSE of this fact: Of the 620 bills sponsored by
Ron Paul during his long career in the House of Representatives, only
four have ever made it to a vote on the House floor and only one of
those became an actual law. People are just dreaming if they think his
proposed changes will be implemented and accepted.
That says absolutely nothing and everything simultaneously.
Congress, a gaggle of inept liars who are bought and sold by corporate America didn’t accept Ron Paul’s legislation? No? Ya don’t say? Geez I wonder how and why a bunch of corporate shills wouldn’t agree with libertarian ideology?
That’s what you’ve got? I’m not sure where you stand? With fascist corporate America or freedmen and liberty? The two party system is meant to divide and conquer. It is not representative of a free society. They have the majority of people convinced two party politics is the answer! Why? Cause they always win! Again, I hate to repeat myself but you never acknowledge or attempt to explain why a so called liberal intensified the bush agenda I the middle east, reveled in drone attacks killing innocent women and children, and continues to throw our constitution in the toilet (constitutional scholar is an insult) don’t you like the constitution and our freedoms? Or how about address the blatant lying Obama has done. The hypocrisy! Hope and change? are you kidding me? All you guys do is deflect rather than answer…..waiting
Wait second..Obama? The war mongering lying hypocrite who defies our constitution?
The guy who intensified the bush war machine? That Obama?
And Ron Paul is unrealistic? Wow……..
This field is so poor. Each candidate has surged and about 3 days later have shown that they can’t even stand up to the slightest bit of scrutiny. They crack, their skeletons come out of the closet, they flip-flop. They’re all awful.
The worst nightmare for the entrenched jackals in our government is to face a power which will truly change the way government does business. Many people who are currently in government have more dirty laundry than Dr. Paul ever thought of possessing. We have a congress chocked full on people who have actually broken the law. drunk drivers, child molesters, check kiters, and perhaps even worse. The former president was convicted of Drunk driving here in Maine. Funny he did not get the scrutiny on this that DR. Paul is getting for comments by others in his “newsletters”
I plan to support Dr. Paul in the coming Maine caucuses and the establishment press is going to have a tough time convincing me that one candidate is more
“megalomaniac”than any other, including the current White House occupant.
Dr. Paul’s main campaign themes include:
Return of rights taken away under the “patriot act”
Reducing our military presence around the world.
Controlling the Federal deficit
Keeping our noses out of other countries internal affairs.
Putting U.S. citizens first when policy decisions are made.
Sounds exactly like what I want for this country.
BTW what happened to the Bangor Daily News policy?
“Keep it civil and stay on topic””No vulgarity, racial slurs, name-calling or personal attacks.””People who harass others or joke about tragedies will be blocked.”
Near as I can tell Thomas Schaller violated all three prohibitions. Guess the rules only apply sometimes.
Wow. Ok mr. Baltimore. This issue was put to rest over three years ago.
Done.
You think he’s wacky because you are pushing a corporate agenda. You have no ethics or morals.
You are a pathetic pen man for your handlers. You and the rest of the so called press should be ashamed! I wish we had a real press corps. Not some sack less shills afraid of the truth.
This latest attempt at smearing ron Paul is very telling. They are very scared. Make no mistake!
They are petrified at the thought of ronnpaul winning. A non corporate non federal reserve backed candidate? You bet they are scared. Which is why inept lap dogs like the fool who wrote the above article are trying to take Paul down.
You want more corporate war mongering? Want to keep losing your rights? Want to keep being a debt slave to the illegal federal reserve? Want to keep shipping your sons overseas to die so that haliburton can turn a profit? Want to keep the international baking cartel in charge of our economy? Then by all means, vote for Obama or newt or Romney. All the same. Make no mistake.
There is no difference between the two parties . Obviously.
The intensification of the smear Ron Paul campaign is very telling.
You can include Bachman, SanItorium, and Gingrich in the meganut column. Romney is Wall Street business as usual, thusly screw the middle class.

Looks like a real “winner”. The Rs deserve him. I’ve said before that he’s the candidate of the 19th Century but I didn’t realize that it applied to his extreme, bigoted views. And now he’s trying to disavow them?
