BANGOR, Maine — Officers broke up an underage drinking party on New York Street about an hour into 2012, according to press release issued Monday by Bangor police.
Police were dispatched to Silver Road and Webster Avenue after a caller reported seeing a male dressed in dark clothing lying in the middle of the intersection, Bangor police said in a press release issued Monday. When illuminated by the headlights of the car, the male jumped up and started walking toward the Bangor Municipal Golf Course.
Officer Michael Brennan spoke with the male, a 15-year-old from Glenburn, who said he had just left a party on New York Street.
As police neared the house where the party reportedly was taking place, officers saw several people scatter into nearby woods and walking away from the house.
Samuel Nisbett, 19, of Bangor, the only person police interacted with from the party who was not a juvenile, was summoned for illegal possession and-or the consumption of alcohol by a minor and the sale and-or use of drug paraphernalia.
Charges could be lodged against the homeowner and whoever furnished alcohol to those who attended the party, Sgt. Paul Edwards said Monday. (Judy Harrison, BDN)
If that 15 year old had been injured, his parents probably would have sued the owner of the home.
What do they mean by “charges could be lodged against the homeowner and whoever furnished the alcohol” I hope if they will find out and charge accordingly.

I was there! They caught 5 of us inside the house. Wouldn’t call it much of a party. I think my favorite part was when I didn’t “sit the f*** down” after they entered the house illegally, so all 3 cops threw me to the floor and one kneed me in the back. It was a fun night..
Intoxicated juveniles don’t have any rights since they are automatically breaking the law and as far as the police knew, you were all trespassing. The next time a cop tells you to do anything you’d be well advised to do it. They make commands for their safety, others safety, and especially for yours.

When you have kids and they are at a party and a kid gets hurt because somebody decided to not do what an officer told them to do… then get back to me. Unless you served in Europe and saw what the SS did to people, then I suggest you save your offensive and out-of-line comparison for people that deserve it.

When I was a kid, we all knew when what we were doing was illegal, and we also knew that if you did not get a chance to bolt for the door and hopefully get away you then had to man up for what you were doing and take the consequences and that being the smart guy to the cops would not get you anywhere. Civil disobedience and resistance to authority is fine, but not in a situation like this. Did they add resistance to arrest to your charges? The judge might have done the old “kids being kids” thing and have been easy on you, but maybe not now.

Then how about before you start talking about rights and things cops tell you to do, you learn what you’re talking about. There was no complaint of tresspassing therefore the police could not assume that anyone was tresspassing until they ascertained ownership of the house. And a police officer can certainly not beat down a drunken teenager because “they have no rights”. This isn’t the USSR and the Bangor PD is definitely not the KGB.

Do you know what was said to them? If the cops get to the house and see a bunch of under aged people drinking, should they just walk away? I’m sure that you are well qualified to comment. With all of the intoxicated individuals on bath salts around Bangor
lately, and with many of them trespassing and doing lots of crazy
non-compliant things (hanging off bridges), do you really think the cops
were out of line for telling a kid to shut up and sit down? They
didn’t know what drugs or substances had been used there. If that kid
had decided to try and run off and had collided with another officer
trying to subdue an unruly drunk and a scuffle ensued involving an armed
officer and somebody was hurt would you still be spewing your “rage
against the machine” nonsensical crap? Grow up and get over the idea
that you are somehow fighting-the-power, and that cops are somehow bad
or not to be trusted.

Thirty-three years ago, the cops used to break up our parties by taking our beer and telling us to sit still until we sobered up and then go home. We thought we were ‘high class’ because we could afford Michelob. Twenty years ago, I used to break up beer parties by taking their beer and telling them to sit still until they sobered up and then go home. We had a good laugh in the parking lot after end-of-shift…the kids could afford Heineken! Of course these parties were out in the woods, we were never bothered in our homes, and we never bothered anyone in their homes unless there was a call for a burglary or other serious crime in progress. Sad how times have changed…:-(
I wonder if the police found out where the 15 yrs. old attends school. His school should probably be receiving a call in case he was involved in extra curricular activities.
Don’t expect Bangor High to do anything. They don’t have a drug and alcohol problem there dontcha know.

I wonder if a percentage of parents who are out drinking hard on New years every year have been training their kids without knowing it. When Mom and Dad are at home waiting for you in a sober condition you tend to get home at a decent hour not drunk.

About time Bangor PD cracks down on underage drinking…..didn’t get any help from them a few years ago when we provided them with addresses that were known for kids drinking. Have to say they have been useless to my family this past year when my husband suffered a brain injury and the person responsible was never arrested.
I wonder if any of them were at the party in Lincoln earlier this winter that resulted in several suspensions in Bangor.
