BELFAST – Gloria M. Whitcomb, 83, passed away Jan. 1, 2012, in Belfast. She was born April 1, 1928, in Dayton, Ky., to Bernard and Mattie (Clark) Eveslage.
Gloria graduated from Crosby High School, class of 1947, and worked for several years at the pants factory in Belfast. She was a devout member of St. Francis of Assisi R.C. Church and a member of the YMCA, where she enjoyed walking and having coffee with the “end of the hall gang.” She spent her life caring for her family and raising her sister’s children. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and caregiver to many.
She was predeceased by her parents and four siblings.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Gerald Whitcomb of Waldo; her children, Frank Whitcomb and wife, Jean, of Colchester, Vt., Ann Marie Sweeney and husband, Kenneth, of Waldo, Dianne Kazilionis of South Portland, Billy Whitcomb and wife, Monique Roy, of Belfast and Lawrence “Gus” Whitcomb of Waldo; grandchildren, Jennifer, Jason, Ben, Gerald, James, Selena, Vanessa and Levi; six great-grandchildren, Tella, Anesia, Moriah, Ricardo, Megan and Sarah; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and her pets, Jackie Boy and Clem.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 6, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Court Street, Belfast, with the Rev. Joseph J. Koury officiating. Interment will be at Paul Yard in Waldo in the spring. Those who wish may make donations to Alzheimer’s Association, Maine Chapter, 383 U.S. Route 1, Suite 2C, Scarborough, ME 04074.
