STOCKTON SPRINGS, Maine — It was a fight over a woman. That’s what started a series of events that ended with a Belfast man being jailed Tuesday night, according to an official at the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office.
Police said Wednesday that Brian Hybers, 20, and a friend of his forced their way into a room at the Rocky Ridge Motel which was occupied by the husband of Hybers’ new girlfriend. Chief Deputy Jeff Trafton had no more information about the romantic complexities involved.
Police did learn that the husband had been receiving text messages from Hybers that said the Belfast man was going to go over and beat him.
When Hybers and his friend, who has not yet been charged with a crime, got into the room, they allegedly started a fight with the husband. However, a man in the next room overheard the brawl and came to the assistance of the husband. He called police and then tried to intervene in the fight, Trafton said.
“Hybers tried to get away,” the chief said.
However, in the scuffle, police said Hybers somehow ended up losing both his shirt and his shoes. He took off into the sub-freezing night and ended up at the home of strangers who live close to the hotel on the Stagecoach Road.
“They called police and said they had a shirtless male at their house,” Trafton said.
Police arriving at the scene charged Hybers with aggravated criminal trespass, assault and criminal mischief.
After Hybers complained of knee pain he was taken to Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast to be medically cleared before ending his evening in a cell at the Waldo County Jail, also in Belfast.
Hybers was released Wednesday morning on $700 cash bail, according to a jail official.
Trafton said that more charges will be forthcoming.

When you discover that your “new” girlfriend has a husband, probably just best to go your separate ways instead of going to start a fight with said husband….do love the mug shot while still wearing the hospital johnny though…..
Not even a transcript of the dear johnny letter.
His facebook page shows he’s in the Job Corps here. What a shock, that program brings more criminals to our state.
I think it’s too bad that you judge a program like Job Corps that has many great programs and students just by this kids actions. How do you feel about Bangor High School? Didn’t 41 of their students just get busted for underage drinking? I have Job Corps student who volunteer at my business and they are some of the most grateful, well mannered kids that I have met…especially compared to the spoiled brats that are in most of our high schools locally.
Maybe you should sit in on a few jobcops classes.
Really? Why is that? I have been on that campus and been involved in some of the activities that they have done, and enjoyed my time there. I see their students in the news frequently- doing POSITIVE things. Maybe you should sit in on a few Job Corps classes and they could teach you a few things- Like Job Corps is a proper noun and should be capitalized.
My daughter went there because she couldn’t afford college. She was horrified at how disrespectful and cruel most of the kids were. They are mostly a bad bunch of kids that go for the money. My daughter finished her courses and now has a full time job at a nursing home and loves it. I praise the program, I just wish they would be a little pickier choosing students to go there. A lot of them are just plain punks.
This picture is like a Pull-Ups commercial…..”I’m a big boy now.” Go by yourself next time, tough guy.
