SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — The Route 1 overpass in the vicinity of Lincoln Street will be removed from 8:30 a.m. Jan. 10 through 6 a.m. Jan. 12, according to the Maine Department of Transportation.

Crews from Shaw Brothers Construction Inc. of Gorham will remove the Route 1 overpass, and traffic will be detoured from Route 1 (Main Street) using Lincoln and Main streets. The work is expected to take about 45 continuous hours with local police and flaggers helping to guide traffic through the detour.

Residents and businesses in the area will experience the normal construction noise of trucks and equipment throughout the day and night, but a hydraulic hammer used to remove the concrete deck will not be allowed to operate between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m.
