MADAWASKA and FRENCHVILLE – Gertrude Grandmaison, 95, passed away peacefully Jan. 5, 2012, at a Frenchville health care facility. She was born Feb. 5, 1916, in Edmundston, New Brunswick.
She is survived by two sons, Ronald Grandmaison and his wife, Maureen “Cookie,” of Fredericksburg, Va., and Richard Grandmaison of Madawaska; three grandchildren, Jennifer, Jimmy and Laura; two great-grandchildren, James and Dylan; one sister, Jean Desbins of Quebec; many nieces and nephews. Gertrude was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Grandmaison; one son, James Grandmaison; four sisters and seven brothers.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 9, at St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Family and friends may call 10 a.m. until the time of service Monday at Lajoie Funeral Home. Interment will be held in the spring. For online condolences, please visit
