PORTLAND, Maine — A Maine organization is holding candlelight vigils to honor and pay remembrance to victims of gun violence one year after a gunman killed six people and injured 13 others in a shooting rampage in Tucson, Ariz.
Maine Citizens Against Gun Violence is holding the vigils at noon Sunday on the front steps of both the Portland and Augusta city halls. The events are among dozens of vigils being held across the country as part of the national Too Many Victims National Candlelight Vigil, organized by the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.
The Maine vigils are sponsored by Maine Citizens Against Gun Violence along with the Maine Council of Churches, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, Physicians for Social Responsibility, States United to Prevent Gun Violence and other groups.

Along with the “vigil”, they are holding a contest to find the group in attendance with the longest name. It doesn’t need to make grammatical sense.
