BANGOR, Maine — An 18-year-old who pulled a knife on another man Saturday night was charged with felony criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said Tuesday.

Michael Tracy of Bangor was at an Ohio Street apartment around 9:30 p.m. Saturday when police were called, the sergeant said. Tracy was 16 when he was involved in a street fight that led to the death of his friend John “Bobby” Surles on Jan. 27, 2010, Edwards confirmed.

Officers Ryan Jones and Chris Blanchard responded to the call on Saturday.

“The suspect pulled a knife on another man and basically said that he was going to stab him,” Edwards said.

Eyewitnesses at the apartment corroborated the story that Tracy threatened the male victim, the sergeant said. Jones arrested Tracy and took him to Penobscot County Jail. He later was released, a jail official said Tuesday.

Tracy faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000 if convicted of the felony criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon.

  1. What makes them think it is ok to act that way? How does this happen. Another non productive member of society.

    1. maybe self defense? story doesn’t say what perspired prior…. so to call the kid that you don’t know a non productive member of society just shows your true ignorance.

    1. Sounds like he wants to join Bobby. He’s lucky the other guy didn’t bring a gun to the knife fight!

  2. ‘Back in the day’ if we had a beef with somebody we might throw our fists at each other and then it was over. Now these punks pull a gun or knife, possibly taking someone’s life, and think nothing of it. How sad and pathetic an excuse for human beings they are.

    1. I know what you’re saying….These punks are just a bunch of gutless pu55ies….couldnt go mano to mano if they had to…..

    1. “Tweedly dum tweedly dee, it’s the gangsta’s life for me!  Whoops, who’s that big guy in the cell with me???  OH MY!!!

  3. Nice that he was immediately released, since he faces a fine of up to $5K which I’m sure he doesn’t have,  and up to five years in prison. This will give him time to get in more trouble while awaiting his day in court. Crap like this is why more and more law abiding people are buying guns and learning how to use them.  There’s nothing wrong with that, either.

    1. owning a gun is a very good idea no matter… no sense holding yourself out there to be a victim.. get one.. learn how to use it safely… be smart about it and be ready to NOT be a victim

  4. you won’t need a trial for this one.. just show his picture to the jury.. and say bye to this thug….. maybe, just maybe he’ll straighten up while away..likely not.. but who knows  what a waste

  5. Oh yeah, lower Ohio Street. What a neighborhood. Oh wait, there is a former city councilor who lives there and a current one on Union St right behind all these crimes. Amazing and yet they will tell you there is no gang activity in Bangor. Justice is blind and I guess the city council is too.

    1. gang activity??? a LONE kid pulls a knife and it’s considered gang activity?? because ten people walk down the street wearing the same color clothing trying to act tough you think their in a gang??? funny in VA, where i come from. most of them are marked with ink, hand signs, colors. the bangor police CHIEF has told the community him self that they’re is NO gang activity in bangor.  just groups of KIDS that don’t get along… by no means “gang activity” by definition.

  6. Dear Michael Tracy,
As bad as you think your life is, you have the power to make it better. If you feel like blaming it on the people in your past, remember that you’re 18 years old now and your future is yours and yours alone. Go to school and make something of yourself. You don’t want to live the life of a criminal. You have your whole life ahead of you. Rise up and live it.

    1. It’s a fact that by that age he’s going to be messed up for the rest of his life. Not to say some people can’t turn their life around. But basing his life on statistics his parents probably were not very good parents and his so miss programmed now that there is a great degree of difficulty in changing. And even if he wants to change this area is too trashy and lacking in resources, opportunities, and services that will help in better development. HOPE is one thing but when it comes down to pure simple LOGIC the math is against him.

  7. somehow it’s really hard for the cops to keep coke crack dust heroin pills whatever off the streets in maine for the past 20 years

  8. Its a breakdown in the human development stage…thats all ….and the fact I was trying to convey was look out for each other…duh.

  9. Punk!  Where is the good old fashion parenting skills?  If this was my kid he would of seeked help for anger managment.  So sad another child lost in society that will cost the tax payers money.

    1. Well. From what I’ve noticed over the years living in Bangor is that most parents don’t take care of their kids very well. They are too busy partying, drinking, drugging, as well as scoring and scheming. They are deadbeat parents that only skills they pass on to their kids is how to “drink, light up, or how to score drugs”. So there are no real parents in Bangor let alone “parenting-skills”.

    1. Most the time when I see kids like this their parents are the same way. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

  10. So he was involved in one fight that turned deadly, and has now pulled a knife and threatened to kill someone.

I’m no Nostradamus…but methinks he’ll end up killing someone one day.

  11. Man Bangor just isn’t what it used to be. A ton of sketchy looking people most of which are alcoholics and druggies. No wonder this boy turned out to be a criminal with all the dead beat parents I’ve seen in this area.  Everyone I’ve known that were decent have taken their kids and have moved out of Bangor. The same goes for some health care professionals over the years. All the one’s that I liked have up and moved away (for various reasons).
