HERMON, Maine — A teenage girl suffered minor injuries Tuesday afternoon in a single-vehicle accident at the bottom of Miller Hill.

Though he declined to release the driver’s name because of her age, Deputy Larry Estes of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department did say she is 17 years old and a resident of Hermon.

Estes said the accident happened shortly after 3 p.m., when the motorist lost control of the Buick sedan she was driving while putting on sunglasses. The car spun three times before leaving the roadway, traveling into a ditch and sideswiping a utility pole, he said.

The teenager was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor for treatment of head, neck and back pain, Estes said, adding that her injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Estes said slippery road conditions and driver distraction were factors in the accident. He said the driver was wearing a seat belt when the crash occurred. He estimated damage to the car at $2,000.

  1. this is my bestfriend you’re talking about, if you don’t have anything nice to say, i suggest you don’t say anything at all. no one wants to hear your rude remarks, you weren’t there & you have no idea what happened. yes, sunglasses? it’s not that hard to believe, when the sun is blinding you. not everyone texts and drives that are teenagers, and you were all once driving teens too? can’t say some of you adults haven’t gotten in worse accidents with the same scenarios. it would be nice if you could use words of encouragement and wish for a quick recovery, instead of being negative about everything you read that you don’t agree with. keep those comments to yourself, because quite frankly nobody agrees with what you have to say.

    1. I’ve never been a teen driver in an accident. I never learned to drive because of all the other teen and older drivers out there driving while distracted. I either walk where I need to go or get someone else to take me where I need to be. I’m almost 62. Good luck to your friend. Hope she feels better.

  2. There have been a lot of accidents over the years near around Miller Hill.  I personally have had one there, I’m not a teen and I wasn’t texting.  I didn’t see this accident, but by the sounds of it I did more damage then this….
Before everyone makes all the rude comments about teens and texting what about all the older people that forget which is the correct side for the gas and break pedal!!!  There was just a story about that a week ago…

  3. i wasn’t saying everybody, but i’m glad that you have been able to make that work for you! thank you very much.
