JAY, Maine — A Jay man who called police to report a burglary at his garage landed in hot water when responding officers uncovered what they called an elaborate marijuana-growing operation at his home.

Police say 49-year-old Earl Williamson was arrested Sunday on charges including cultivation of marijuana.

Two officers responded to Williamson’s home after he reported people trying to break into his garage.

The responding officers detected a strong smell of marijuana.

After an investigation, it was determined there was a growing operation in the upstairs of the garage.

The Sun Journal reports that police seized about 25 pot plants, several of them fully matured, and about 14 ounces of processed marijuana. Growing equipment was also seized.

Williamson was released on $5,000 unsecured bail.

  1. C’mon man…..if you call the cops to come to your house, at least hide the pot growing operation first…..Crazy….

    1. I have to agree with you….when you are growing pot and people are trying to steal it the cops may not be your best allie

  2. Some punk trying to steal pot so they can sell it for some pills.
The problem is, thieves are like coch roaches. You never really get rid of them! He will have to move.

  3. Hmmm
Bust the home owner…..Nothing about the scum trying to break into his property, but it was probably much easier to arrest the home owner than it was to protect his property.
