OLD TOWN, Maine — Old Town police arrested a Bangor man and a Brewer woman on multiple charges Monday night after finding the synthetic hallucinogenic drug bath salts and other scheduled drugs, hypodermic needles and drug paraphernalia in the car they were riding in.

Arrested were Jamie Lewis, 36, and Andrea Economy, 26, Old Town police Capt. Kyle Smart said in a news release Thursday.

Lewis was charged with possession of synthetic hallucinogens, possession of hypodermic apparatus and violating the conditions of his release from a prior arrest.

Economy was charged with possession of scheduled drugs, possession of hypodermic apparatus and sale and use of drug paraphernalia, Smart said.

Lewis remained at the Penobscot County Jail on Thursday night, a jail official confirmed. Economy is out on bail.

According to Smart, police were called to the intersection of Pembroke Drive and Stillwater Avenue to check up on a vehicle that had left the roadway and landed in a ditch near Skeeter’s Redemption.

When they arrived, the officers spotted several articles of drug paraphernalia consistent with bath salts abuse in the vehicle, Smart said.

A subsequent search of the vehicle turned up containers with bath salts powder residue, other scheduled drugs, between 25 and 30 hypodermic needle and syringe setups and several laptop computers, he said.

According to a news story published in the Bangor Daily News last month, Lewis was one of three people arrested last month after an Old Town police officer pulled them over near the entrance of Regency Trailer Park in a car that had been reported stolen by a Hampden car rental business.

Lewis was charged with carrying a concealed weapon after officers found a pistol tucked into the waistband of his pants.

Lewis also was charged with possession of bath salts, trafficking in dangerous knives and violating the conditions of his bail from a previous arrest, Old Town police Sgt. Michael Hashey said at the time.

  1. bet their folks are proud….seems like this is the majority of the local news these days….drugs, bath salts, crimes of stealing, assault, etc…….what has happened here?

    1. You bet their folks are proud? Really? How do you think their parents feel right now? Wow. Have some compassion. I bet their parents are scared to death every day wondering if they’re going to get a call that their son/daughter OD’d and I bet they wonder every day what they did wrong as parents when they very well could have been the best parents going…..THIS is the reality now. These nasty drugs are rampid and I am seeing parent after parent go through this hurt and frustration of their ADULT son or daughter getting wrapped up in them. Please think of these situations before posting so rudely.

      1. do you understand sarcasm……I pray for these people to see the right way to go….of course their families are in pain….so please carefully get down off your high horse….addicts think only of themselves and even when they hit the bottom, don’t realize how low they have gone….drugs that make one crazy, not a feel good drug, crimes committed in their towns, neighborhoods and to family members to get money for these devil drugs….please……..

  2. Arrest them, let them out, arrest them, let them out, arrest them, let them out. Is there some kind of pattern here.

    1. ha!  good one..
You forgot…watch free cable…get free healthcare…THEN let them out, and repeat..

      1. Don’t forget free legal drugs inside jail. I’ve been told by inmates that just got out that they want the drugs they had in jail, those were the good ones….

          1. I volunteer in shelters and donate time to a food kitchen. I also work in people’s home sent in by state funds. I wouldn’t consider people I work for or with as friends. I am friendly and nice and would be even if it wasn’t part of my job.

  3. Seriously??? Are all of these people proud about their arrests? They are smiling in their mugshots!

    1. Got to look your best, its the only time they make the news! By the way, most are very proud and brag abut making the news.

  4. These photo’s would make a fantastic recruiting poster.  but I’m not sure for what?
Find your niche in prison?   Do you have what it takes?

  5. Well let’s see Judge, you let him out last time only so he could commit more crimes.  Had synthetic hallucinogen last time on him and now has been found again with bath salts.  What will you do this time?  Suggestion, keep this criminal in jail for a very longtime.

  6. 95% of arrest relating to bath salts are of the female species, or at least that
is what the BDN reports…hmm! Must be a female drug…”The Crazies”

  7. 50k a year to lock these people up. How much vengeance can we afford? We need more rehab programs and community service. Leave the jail cells for people who are a danger to OTHERS, not just themselves.

    1. Right….. because drug freaks who drive their cars into ditches and who break into houses to steal money for drugs aren’t a danger to anybody but themselves.  What if they hit a pedestrian like the drunk guy at UMaine who killed the girl?  As far as rehab, I bet that either one or both of these people have been in & out of that at least once already.

      1. Does incarceration constitute wasting time and resources at 50k a year per head? Do you have a cheaper alternative that is not too draconian? I think rehab and thousands of hours of community service is still the best bang for our buck as tax payers.

  8. Wow, Andrea has fallen far from her previous achievements.  She was an all-star high school pole vaulter at Brewer, a decent student, and was going for her degree in pharmacy.  Looks like she sort of / not quite got into pharmacy.

  9. they smile because they know the rest of their druggie friends will bail them out before the night’s done. you cant change a junkie, and you cant change evil. say what you want, but these people do not deserve to be living let alone on the streets. so glad people like this are roaming my town for my children to grow up around!

    1. You can change a junkie. Actually, no, you cant. But they can change their selves and I would stand by that statement. Some are beyond help but if someone really wants help and to turn their life around, they can make it happen. Trust me…. But you would rather take anyone with a problem out back and shoot them like a lame horse, right? Just get rid of all the junkies, then we can get rid of all the fatties at McDonald’s too, how about homeless people? They’s such a pain too… *eye-roll*. You can’t help someone who doesn’t WANT help, otherwise they will keep running back. It’s a nasty, vicious cycle. (Definitely not defending them)

    2. and hopefully for you sir/ma’am your kids don’t get injured in high school, or find the wrong friends. hopefully your kids don’t get ANY type of addiction, because according to you druggies don’t deserve to live. i’m 26 years old and am an addict, not by choice. at 21 i was in a car accident where i broke my back in 3 places, doctors answer was ALOT of narcotic pain relievers. even tho i don’t take them today i will be addicted for the rest of my life. i was a firefighter and i worked on an ambulance. i’ve saved lives my WHOLE LIFE.  YET by your own statements, i don’t deserve to live? ignorance becomes of you. like i said hope all stays well in your family, don’t wish this pain on anyone in any way shape form
