Point Lookout, a resort set across 122 acres in Northport, is for sale for $5.7 million.

The property includes 40 cabins, a 23,000-square-foot guest services building with a fitness center, four miles of hiking trails and a full-sized artificial turf soccer field with stadium seating.

The property was listed on Friday on LoopNet, a commercial real estate website, and is being sold by the Daigle Commercial Group. Its “current and highest use” would be to continue renting its cabins, according to the property listing

Recreational opportunities could also be expanded at the site, the listing said, and the property could be used for other residential or commercial uses, subject to zoning, permitting and subdivision approvals.

Point Lookout, located on Ducktrap Mountain overlooking Penobscot Bay, was built as a corporate retreat for credit card giant MBNA when the company was the largest employer in midcoast Maine, with offices and a call center in Belfast in the late 1990s into the early 2000s.

In its heydey, the retreat spanned nearly 400 acres and featured a bowling alley, a restaurant and more than 100 cabins.

The property has changed hands several times. In 2011, athenahealth bought it for $7.7 million. In 2019, a cattle-ranching couple bought the property for their private residence, intending to farm and run an events center there, but ceased some of the resort operations after failing to find an operator to run it.

Some of the property’s buildings and their contents were auctioned off in 2020 and portions of the original property have been sold to different entities in recent years, Northport town officials said.
