BAR HARBOR, Maine — Thousands of dollars’ worth of jewelry was stolen from a local gem shop when someone entered the business sometime last weekend, according to police.
The burglary occurred at Willis Rock Shop sometime between the evening of Friday, Jan. 6, and the morning of Monday, Jan. 9, police Sgt. David Kerns said Thursday. He declined to say how entry was made into the Main Street business, saying that the burglary remains under investigation.
Kerns did not say how many pieces were stolen or what their estimated worth is, but did say that the total value of the missing items is more than $1,000. The jewelry that was taken was custom-made at the shop, he said.
Police are conducting interviews and are pursuing leads, but Kerns declined to go into detail. Anyone with information that may be useful to the investigation is asked to call the Bar Harbor Police Department at 288-3391.

thousands of dollars worth of jewelry, or jewelry worth over $1000.?
annoying reporting. But, most importantly, sorry for the Willis’.
Somehow “rock shop” just doesn’t bring to mind thousands of anything- except the rocks themselves. I hope he’s not insured by the same company that had to pay out the massive $7500.00 several weeks ago. Surely, insurance premiums will jump on the island.
I have seen some of the work done at Willis’ – and it is SO much more than just rocks. The people that work there take stones and create pieces of jewelry around the stones instead of trying to fit a stone into a pre-made, pre-processed piece of “jewelry”…
I wasn’t being serious, I’m sure the work is really nice.
Maybe the gems are at the Parkside’s gift shop
At least rocks don’t bounce.
I wonder if anyone will make the connection you are refering to?
I for one did and find it quite funny!
They were probably traded for some salts, bath salts that is.
