JONESPORT, Maine — The U.S. Coast Guard rescued three people from the icy waters of the Atlantic Ocean after the skiff they were in overturned off the coast of Jonesport, across from Kelley Point.
All three of the boaters, whose names and hometowns weren’t immediately available, were met onshore by emergency medical personnel, who took them to an area hospital for treatment, Chief Petty Officer Jason Smith of U.S. Coast Guard Sector Northern New England said early Friday evening.
Smith did say that all three boaters are adults. No further information about their medical condition was available Friday night.
Smith said that the three used a cellphone to call for help after their watercraft capsized about 4:30 p.m.
With the help of spotlights, the crews of a lifeboat and a 25-foot response boat launched from the Coast Guard’s Jonesport station located the trio between Pig Island and Sheep Island and removed them from the ocean, Smith said. The three were back on shore in Jonesport within an hour, he said.

I sport fish out of Rockland and wish to thank the men and women of the C.G. A friend of mine is retired from the C.G and he said the Coast guard has a saying “You have to go out to help, but you don’t have to come back!” Bless you all!
Hey BDN, why does the headline say “Jonesboro”? The nearest point of land in Jonesboro is over seven miles from where the rescue occurred. It’s only one mile to Kelley Point in Jonesport. Pig Island is in the town of Beals and Sheep Island is in the town of Jonesport. Just sayin.
To the UNITED STATES COAST GUARD — GREAT JOB — YOU PEOPLE ARE TRUE HEROS –:)
headline writers are like offensive lineman, not considered a skill position:)_
