HERMON – Gerald C. Pickard Sr. died peacefully at home Jan. 15, 2012. He was born May 15, 1926, the eldest son of Floyd and Eloise (Ellingwood) Pickard.

He was happily married for 63 years to Gloria Estelle McGinley. Gerry graduated from Hermon High School, the University of Maine at Orono and received his master’s degree from West Virginia University. Settling back in Maine, Gerry and Gloria raised four children on the family farm, Pleasant Hill Farms, Hermon. His last 15 years of working life were spent as county agent for the USDA in Penobscot and Hancock Counties. Gerry was a dedicated and very active mason, starting at Lynde Lodge, Hermon, rising through various positions in the Anah Shrine, Grand Lodge, York Rites and Scottish Rites, where he served as deputy for the State of Maine for 33rd degree, Supreme Council, and was currently serving on the Board of Governors of Bangor Masonic Learning Center. He served as past patron of Eastern Star, and past master, Maine Lodge of Research. Gerry was also a member of Hermon Historical Society, and the First Baptist Church, where he sang as tenor in the senior choir.

Gerry is survived by his beloved wife, Gloria; sons and daughter, G. Carl Pickard and wife, Judith, Brian Pickard and wife, Mary, Sherrill Barrows and husband, Mark, and Neal Pickard; grandchildren, Jennifer and husband, Jason, Sheila, Jeremy, Bryan, Marcia, Caitlin and Ian; and one great-grandchild, Kailynn Rose; his brother, Carroll and wife, Pat; sisters-in-law, Amber Pickard and Sylvia Pickard.

At his request, there will be no visiting hours. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at First Baptist Church, 56 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Stephanie Salinas, pastor, assisted by the Rev. Frank Girdwood, officiating, followed by refreshments in the vestry.
