PRESQUE ISLE, FORT FAIRFIELD and FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Marilyn Morin Akeley passed away peacefully Jan. 12, 2012, at Lemay Avenue Health and Rehab, Fort Collins, Colo. Marilyn Joy Morin was born June 17, 1930, in Presque Isle, to Philip Maurice Morin and Leola Lovering Morin.

She attended schools in Milo and graduated from Presque Isle High School in 1948. On July 22, 1949, Marilyn married the love of her life, Russell Joseph Akeley. Their journey together was cut short when Russell passed away in 1979, but her life remained rich with children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends. Starting in 1979, Marilyn touched the lives of countless students in Aroostook County as the librarian at Fort Fairfield Middle and High schools and then as the children’s librarian at Turner Memorial Library, Presque Isle.

Marilyn is survived by her sister, Gloria Locke and her husband, John, of Lakeside, Ariz.; daughters, Donna Fraser and her husband, Jerry, of Woodstock, Va., and Kimberly Akeley-Charron and her husband, Eric, of Loveland, Colo.; daughter-in-law, Bonny Akeley of Waterville; granddaughter, Angela Stark and her husband, Josh; and grandsons, Steven Akeley and his wife, Julie, Gibb Charron and Reed Charron. Marilyn is also survived by great-granddaughters, Lilly, Abigayle, Emeline, Katherine and Sienna. She was predeceased by her parents, husband; and son, the Rev. Gary R. Akeley.

A celebration of Marilyn’s life will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at Fairmount Cemetery, Presque Isle. Arrangements have been entrusted to Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield.
