GREENVILLE and BANGOR – Heaven received a new angel Jan. 18, 2012, as Penny H. Patterson, 64, passed peacefully from this world into the loving arms of the Lord, surrounded by family and friends, after a long struggle with ovarian cancer. Penny was born in Waterville, and raised in Millinocket. She was the only child of Robert and Madeline Mattall, who instilled in her special values and nurtured her to become the shining star she was.

Penny was a truly selfless person, always caring for others more than of herself. She touched the hearts and lives of many patients during her long nursing career at Eastern Maine Medical Center and St. Joseph Hospital, and later at Laeger and Curran physician offices. Penny graduated from St. Martin of Tours High School and St. Mary’s School of Nursing in 1968. Penny was married to Robert K. Patterson in 1969 and they raised one child together in Bangor and Veazie. Robbie was indeed the love of their life and they raised him to become a wonderful, loving son, father and husband. Later they moved to Beaver Cove and met many wonderful people, traveled, enjoyed the outdoors and their Tibetan terriers.

Penny is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Bob; their son, Rob and his wife, Stephanie, the daughter we never had; two grandchildren, Ally and Jake; plus Quigley and Domino, her Tibetan terriers.

A memorial Mass will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 23, at Holy Family Church, Greenville. A graveside service will be held in the spring in the family lot in Willimantic. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to further Penny’s lifelong love of animals at Tibetan Terrier Health and Welfare Foundation Rescue, attention: Jac Herschler, P.O. Box 1001, Southport, CT 06890. Messages of condolences may be posted at www.caringbridge/ visit/pennypatterson. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal, Greenville.
