PRINCETON and BANGOR – George Thunder Bear peacefully went into the arms of his ancestors Jan. 8, 2012, after a courageous battle with diabetes and renal failure.

He grew up on Indian Island and loved everything outdoors. He was a lifelong scholar, with degrees in forestry and education. He was continuing his education in photography and creative writing. He was amazing behind the lens of a camera and when he touched pen to paper his creativity was endless. He was an alumnus of the University of Maine, Orono, and attended the Institute of American Indian Arts, Santa Fe, New Mexico. George’s many relatives and friends throughout the world are too great in number to list. He was well loved and we all feel a great loss.

A celebration of his life will be held in the spring along Birch Stream.
