HOLDEN – Grace A. Spencer Oakes, 80, died Jan. 20, 2012, at her home. She was born June 12, 1931, in Bangor, the daughter of Alphonse E. and Myrtle L. (Bailey) LeClair.
Grace was a longtime resident of Holden, where she attended Holden Congregational Church and taught Sunday school. In recent years, she attended Bangor Baptist Church. Grace loved spending time with her family, especially cookouts at Orland Pond.
Surviving are three children, Richard E. Spencer and his wife, Frances, of Palmyra, Tenn., Mary White of Kingman and Michael Spencer and his wife, Una, of Holden; several grandchildren, Michael J. Spencer, Erik E. Spencer and his wife, Jennie, Colie Spencer and girlfriend, Audrey, Denise Spencer-Pond, Charlie Stinson and her husband, Elwood, Brandee Keith and her husband, Greg, Tina White, Randy Neblett and his wife, Julia, Jamie Spencer and his wife, Krista, Josh Spencer, David Spencer, Brian Spencer and his wife, Sue, Mandy Spencer, Kelly Phillips and her husband, Derek, and Melanie Silvia her boyfriend, Mike; 28 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; and one niece, Margaret “Peggy” Beardsley of Oregon. She was predeceased by her parents; two sons, Robert and David Spencer, in 2004; and one sister, Margaret Barlow.
Family and friends may visit noon-2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 69 State St., Brewer, where a service honoring Grace’s life will be held 2 p.m. as the visitation concludes. The Rev. Jerry Mick, senior pastor of Bangor Baptist Church, will preside. Burial will be in the spring at Maplewood Cemetery, Clifton.
