WINTHROP – Muriel M. Fortier, 96, of Narrows Pond Road, died Friday, Jan. 20, 2012, at Hospice House, Auburn. She was born May 18, 1915, in Dexter, the daughter of Anthony and Angie (Clukey) Rabideau.

Muriel graduated from Dexter High School and she married Francis Fortier July 29, 1939. Together they enjoyed many summers at camp on the East Branch of the Penobscot River. Her neighbors and friends there referred to Muriel as “Mother Nature.”

She was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Francis B. Fortier; two sons, James R. Fortier and Jay F. Fortier; and also a sister, Joyce Violet. She is survived by a son, John Fortier and his wife, Joan, of Readfield; a daughter, Janet DeJony of Anchorage, Alaska; 11 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, several nieces and nephews.

There will be no visiting or services at this time. A graveside service will be held at a later date at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice Foundation, 15 Strawberry Ave., Lewiston, ME 04240. Arrangements are in the care of Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop.
