AUGUSTA, Maine — A day before Gov. Paul LePage is to deliver his first State of the State address, House and Senate Democratic leaders challenged him to “put aside ideology and extremism” and set a more positive tone for the year ahead.
At a noontime press conference on Monday, more than two dozen Democrats stood behind their party leaders to call out LePage.
“Too much time has been spent on distractions on needless fighting, on baseless attacks and on extreme policies that don’t create jobs, that don’t help working families and that don’t strengthen our economy,” said House Minority Leader Emily Cain of Orono.
Adrienne Bennett, the governor’s spokeswoman, said the timing of the Democrats’ event was unfortunate. Just last Friday, LePage met with Democratic leaders to address concerns about the proposed Department of Health and Human Services supplemental budget.
“To come back 72 hours later and bash the governor, it’s not productive,” she said. “They are doing exactly what they don’t want us to do.
“He’s prepared tomorrow night to set his tone.”
LePage will deliver his State of the State address to a joint session of the House and Senate beginning at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the State House.
Cain and other Democratic leaders didn’t just target LePage for criticism on Monday. House and Senate Republicans were called out, too.
“When our economy needed a shot in the arm, the governor and Republicans in the majority held public investment hostage, stalled our work on proven energy efficiency programs, tried to limit voting rights, made health care more expensive for many Mainers and and ignored critical work force training initiatives that would help get more Maine people back to work,” Cain said.
Assistant House Majority Leader Andre Cushing of Hampden said he’s looking forward to LePage’s State of the State because the governor will be able to talk about his own time in office.
“It’s unfortunate that the day before the governor has an opportunity to speak, people want to cast aspersions on him, the way that he dealt with some of the challenges that have come before us and the opportunities to change the complexion of the state of Maine that was granted by the voters last November,” Cushing said.
Whether Monday’s event was anything more than political theater remains to be seen. There was speculation that Democrats were trying to get the governor worked up knowing that he has been prone to go off script.
“It’s disappointing that Democrats are focusing solely on the negative. This was extreme political rhetoric,” Bennett said. “While they are focusing on tone, he’s focused on finding solutions.”
Senate Minority Leader Barry Hobbins, D-Saco, said the Legislature and the governor should focus on lowering energy costs and investing in infrastructure.
LePage has talked a great deal about lowering energy costs in recent weeks, so it appears he and Democrats disagree on the best way to do that.
Democrats also pointed out that Maine has lost 4,400 jobs under LePage’s watch, according to the Department of Labor, while unemployment levels have remained flat. Bennett said the unemployment rate has dropped by more than half a percent.
But most of Monday was focused on the governor’s tone.
“Democrats challenge Gov. LePage to better market our state —- to attract businesses, investors and young talent,” said Assistant House Minority Leader Terry Hayes of Buckfield. “The governor and his allies take every opportunity to degrade our state and the people who live here.”
Democrats said they are willing to work with Republicans. Bennett and Cushing said Republicans are willing to work with Democrats. But the rhetoric could make it more difficult to find compromise on key issues as the Legislature’s second regular session wears on.
“To me, anytime you throw dirt, you lose ground,” Cushing said, adding that Democrats’ unwillingness to work with Republicans has been unproductive and he pointed to what he called feet-dragging by Appropriations Committee members on the DHHS budget.
Asked whether he felt the governor had a tone problem, Cushing replied: “Fortunately, he’s not on Facebook. I think that we all find that we react sometimes to issues, but we’re all human. He says things that people take off the cuff without understanding the context.”

How about the democrats just stop offering extreme partisanship and give the people their solution? I have yet to see the BDN report on what their solution is to the DHHS funding gap…oh, right, they don’t have one. Democrats of Maine should be disappointed in their elected officials.
Why should
Democrats of Maine be disappointed in their elected officials?
Shouldn’t Republicans be
disappointed in their elected officials too?
If LePage and his mob would release real numbers that back up what they’re saying we could ALL be proud!
The numbers have been there for a couple weeks–verified independently for this budget year as well. The independent verification for next year’s numbers is not absolute, yet, due to many unknowns, according to the agency. It’s not about lack of information, or even verification. If the Democrats think the LePage administration numbers are not right, exactly where do they think the numbes are off? They have not cited any specific concerns with the numbers that I have seen. Their tactics are clear: delay, whip up negative press as much as they can, delay some more, and hope for something to break and make them look better–but they are not offering one single solution.
”
verified independently” BY WHO? Maine Heritage Policy Center? Adrienne Bennett? Pee Wee Herman?
All right—I’ll look it up:
Here it is for BDN January 19th:
In a letter to Democratic leaders Wednesday, Grant Pennoyer, head of the nonpartisan Office of Fiscal and Program review, said current spending trends would produce a shortfall in the range of the department’s $120 million estimate, assuming no changes in the second half of this year. For the next fiscal year, LePage anticipates another $100 million budget gap. Pennoyer wrote in the letter that his office currently lacks sufficient information to confirm that estimate, despite cooperation from DHHS.
I was wondering why “wandini” would think the BDN should be offering anyone political advice? Totally illogical comment but apparently fulfilling someone’s happiness. Let us not forget that the last time a democrat went in to have a one on one discussion with Mr. LePage, Paul turned around and told the press that it was a bunch of bull doo-doo. There’s nothing to discuss with LePage. He simply needs to be made powerless (Vote accordingly next November) ignored as much as possible and removed in 2014. One solution to our current problems would be to require our representatives to say only good things about us and our State. Constantly calling half our people leeches and bums is not only a lie (I suppose to get support for cutting social services)but it also doesn’t really seem like a good way to being or keep quality people or businesses here in Maine. I know if it were possible for me to do so I’d have left by now and if I were a business I’d locate elsewhere, at least until some degree of level headed sanity has returned to this State.
Level headed sanity such as Cynthia Dill and Emily Cain?
God help us!
I’m sure if you want to leave bad enough we can find you bus fare somewhere!!!
I’ve got it covered!
See this is why the GOP/Tea Party is doomed. All they can think of is getting rid of people who have skills that they lack. You know Dan if you’d pay me enough I might be persuaded to sit here like you and write lies for the Republican/Tea Party. I could certainly make you guys look better then the really-really sad (Spelling, grammar, syntax etc.) commentary we’re all forced to read here everyday from conservatives that apparently never took a writing class in their lives. Their best works are usually found when they restrict their thoughts to one sentence that they’ve cut and pasted from someone else or some conservative website. You know, like yours here. Being a bleeding heart liberal I’d love to help you fellers out but alas, sadly for you and your party you probably can’t afford to pay me beyond my current wages. Besides, I have no desire to spend eternity in that place LePage wants to send President Obama.
“I have yet to see the BDN report on what their solution is to the DHHS funding gap…oh, right, they don’t have one.”
You misunderstood my post. The “their” in that sentence does not refer to the hard workers at the BDN, but to the Democrats who have not offered any solutions for the hard workers at the BDN to report on…
Didn’t the republicans vote in LePage? They should be disappointed and ashamed….
Actually the majority of those who voted we voted him in. We are proud because he is working to solve the problems we want him to solve. Unlike Liberals they want to use extreme personal attacks and insults while deflecting why we are in the mess in the first place. It is because of them. They have no solutions , they are holding their public forums and are advocating more of the same failed agenda. Raising taxes on all Mainers , more extreme business killing regulations, more Welfare Expansion, more borrowing to pay for Welfare Expansion, bringing back the Nanny State. While also adding Gay Marriage, Quimby’s stupid National Park and More Casinos & Gambling to be blown on Expansion of DHHS AND Welfare. That is the Democrat Agenda for November of 2012 more foolishness, gimmicks, massive job losses , failing schools, awful infrastructure. While claiming its shared prosperity and shared sacrifice. I think the Democrats should just go home and stay there because they offer nothing positive for our state. Let the Indian Tribes have more say in Augusta because they have better ideas and vision than what the Liberals want.
You should not be using the word “majority.” 38% is not a majority; it needs to be more than 50% for it to be a majority. Stop trying to bolster your argument by using inappropriate language. And talking about “extremes”, this bozo is about as exreme as they get.
Hey @$$clown, Baldachi had only a 37% majority on one of his elections and King only 36% on one of his. This “61%” crap has got to stop, it is disingenuous and misleading.
I agree the Liberals claim they the 61% and the 99% represent us no they only represent Liberals. They now keep claiming the majority didn’t vote for LePage and Republicans in the majority of the legislature. Though when they ran things it was always good for them. They are angry they are in the minority now and they are seeing what the majority of us (Republicans, Greens, Independents, Tea Party, Blue Dog Dems etc.) have had to go through with not having our voices heard. They are denial about what is wrong with Maine and the problems with the economy, education, infrastructure and its people are going through. They are doing what they did for 40 years blame everyone else for their failures. As I stated let the Maine Indian Tribes have more of say because they have ideas to get our economy going.
the deflection is the GOP making everyone think it’s social services when indeed it is all the tax breaks that the rich get and all the inappropriate delegating of tax payers money to the legislator and or spouses companies. 23 Million to be exact.
Bull the problem is you can’t have more than 60%+ of the people on Welfare and Unemployment it is not sustainable. We have to cut taxes people are broke. Tax Cuts spur economic growth. Tax Hikes, Massive Borrowing, Massive Spending, Awful regulations on businesses and people, abysmal infrastructure is why Maine is in its terrible state of shape today. The Liberals only care about expanding the Welfare and Nanny State. This is a party that only created 56 jobs to make up losing tens to hundreds of thousands. Their defenders want to use the excuse its tax breaks for the rich the failed class warfare argument. Well if their beliefs correct then explain why they don’t control the Governor’s Office and both chambers of the Legislature.
{We are proud because he is working to solve the problems we want him to solve.}
Robbing from the poor and giveing social safety nets to the rest isin’t solving any problems. It just makes the angry mob of Tax Grumps owww and ahh for a short adreneline rush!
But they are prouder than ever of their choice; and fully back him up.
NOPE !!!!!!! We LOVE him and worship the ground he walks on !
Peace Out ! 357 ;<)
They have no shame, just hate and loathing for the down trodden.
You Libs need to stop making excuses. These cuts should have been made 40 years ago. These programs do nothing they break the backs of the working folks and taxpayers. Thankfully the working Mainers now have a champions in the Republican Legislature and Governor Lepage who actually care about us. These cuts will be made that is why you see the moochers fighting and screaming because they are losing their freebies. The Liberals don’t care about the working folks which they claim to represent. Because they raise their taxes to have it redistributed to those lazy welfare bums who refuse to work. Well they are right where they belong in the minority as I stated earlier if they don’t like it go home and let other folks replace them including Maine Indian Tribes who will actually do the work they refuse to do.
…
I know many that voted for him that won’t be voting for him again : (
Makes one wonder how deeply did LePage and crew have to delve into the inner workings of ALL State agencies to come to the conclusion that all our troubles (And no doubt those of the rest of the world who are also experiencing economic hardship) are due to social welfare programs? Or could it be that they simply figured that this group would be the easiest to attack and de-fund because they have so little power and even less sympathy from others during hard economic times. Ya know, that would be exactly what unthinking bullies would try to do without having to actually do any delving into State government at all. Sure we need to make cuts (Yes even to welfare) but to do so with a sense of glee on the backs of so many that had little to do with bringing us to this point is illogical as well as immoral. Who caused the current Worldwide economic crisis? If I have to answer that question for you that then you’ve already had your mind close for far too long to experience any learning from me.
Since you can’t seem to bring yourself to say it, I’ll say it for you. Your Left Wing Liberal Party caused it.
Wow! A Left Wing Liberal Party located (Somewhere) in America caused a Worldwide economic disaster? You’re kidding right? I suspect that you’re just saying something that feels good for YOURSELF. Oh yes, I’m quite used to seeing that type of response. If you’re serious please specify how something so remarkable could possibly happen. Perhaps we can use this same remarkable strategy to take down China!
I was simply speaking of the economic turmoil the US is currently in but since you bring it up, yes, it was the liberal and socialist parties that caused the economic problems in the European countries as well.
The only question I have for you is, are you paid by the BDN or one of the many Democratic Committee’s to spread their liberal agenda? It is clear from your writings that you are employed by one of them, the only question is, which one!!!
Wow,And 2 unfunded wars that the goverment borrowed ecverything to wage had nothing to do with this ,huh?Giving 1 70 million in tax cuts , mostly to the weathy , and be surprised that we have deficits?Geez, a little simple math may have been able to show that would happen.
Divide and Conquer, Divide and Conquer
as long as I keep pointing my finger at you and you keep pointing your finger at me then neither one of us will see that it is the entire “two-party” system
if you see a dime’s bit of difference between a democrat and a republican you are fooling yourself.
Why do you think they throw money into the “save the fetuses” and “blame the unions” campaigns?
And how come nobody is calling Olympia out for her husband’s milking the federal student loan system for MILLIONS?
Bravo!
I think we SHOULD delve into State Gov’t. Let’s start with the Governor’s paycheck and benefits….the cost of housing this “slob” in the Blaine house…the cost of his SUV entourage that rides him around the State like a rock star…hmmm…not EVERYONE is feeling the economic hardship are they ? Cutting welfare is a great idea but if it’s not replaced by something else (like jobs) then the cost falls into the hands of the people…Republican AND Democrat. Any Republican that defends LePuke because of party affiliation is really not very bright.
They didn’t have to delve far to see that 40% of the state budget is DHHS; The next biggest part is education. Where would you have them cut? And where do you see glee in any of this? Nobody is laughing about the economic condition of this state, nor at the steps needed to try to fix it.
You say, sure we need to make cuts. Tell me, where and what would you cut if you had to decide? Just one specific example will do…or more if you have the time.
I don’t have time but I’ll toss a few easy gems for ya.
1. The number of state representatives. We have too many and their benefits are too expensive.
2. Those same reps should receive the same benefit package as what will be imposed upon the majority of Mainers of which the serve.
3. Lauren LePage is a no brainer here.
4. Flat out without making any judgment moral or play any political game to rile up one’s base of support, tell each head of every state agency to cut 10% from their budgets any way possible including jobs, waste, or of course their own bloated salaries.
5. Increase revenues, yep that means taxes. Logically such should be done only on those who have profited so highly by the events that have crushed the greater majority of citizens over the past four years. I know, you don’t like that and I know ALL the weak responses…so you can save your breath. I disagree. Those that profited off a screwed up system that benefited them should now pay a little extra for all “We the people” just did for them over the past nine years of the Bush tax breaks. Besides who got us into this situation, two wars, nation building, financial misconduct? That’s right is wasn’t the poor, or handicapped, it was those with money and greed for more. Time for them to pay for THEIR mistakes!
I could think of more but I’m likely wasting my time anyways huh? How do I know this? Because nothing I just said is anything that someone else hasn’t already stated over and over. If you haven’t heard those in the past then you’re likely not hearing them now either.
Thanks for taking the time. So, I would have no problem if the Democrats took your list and offered it up for debate on what the state should do. But they’re not doing that, and we both know why. It wouldn’t play to the majority of Mainers. Which goes back to my original point that the Dems right now are not interested in solutions–they are playing politics and jockeying to return to power through negativity. It may work to their advantage, but the people of Maine will lose.
No problem at all. I honestly don’t see one thing mentioned that would offend anyone (With the exception of Paul and Lauren of course) in Maine. That would include those Democrats you say are playing politics, stalling etc. Nonsense. All I see is one group fixated on another group who they feel doesn’t deserve to receive aid. In some cases that will ALWAYS be true regardless of who may happen to be in power. It may on the surface work to the R/TP favor to attack the weakest among us in hard economic times for “most,“ but in the long run such diminishes us all as a people. Stop using the poor, handicapped, and elderly as an easy scapegoat to save money. Savings can be found everywhere without all the creepy hating that Mr. Lepage and crew has done nothing but encourage. When things improve a lot of people will look back on these times with a real sense of shame.
Many = 1 …not so ‘Keen’ are you?
You’re right. But this is not about BH Obama.
….
And I know many who voted for him and think he is doing a great job. So what?
….
Well, have your people get in touch with my people, we’ll do lunch.
….
See, always looking for someone to pay your way…..That was a joke, by the way!
The people I know are struggling to pay their mortgage and utility bills and insurance bills. No time, no spare cash for lunch. They mostly do potluck functions. Anyone up for a potluck lunch?
…
…
Fear not, medication will help:)
Not yer kind though,,,,,bad for tha Liver. ;<) 357 peace out
that would be the rich or others that are doing fine financially from his decisions. That would be the people that only care about themselves and no one else! Yes, I work and vote.
…
Great job?
Creating a skape goat diversion for his Tax Give aways and crony ism!
Targeting the sick, lame, and lazy!
And just how do you know that, esp. when his ratings have soared and he continues to pack local community meetings full of hostile democrats that give him standing applause when he’s done?
…You really don’t have a clue, but are just following the talking points your union gave you….it’s o.k. to be a paid puppet; but don’t let these fantasies overwhelm you.
Organic gardener, Every once in a while there is a post on this site where the poster hit the nail so squarely on the head, he or she deserves an award! You did it! Thanks
Good work ! Now head to the State house for your check…..
What exactly have you been gardening ? Are you smoking it too ? The local community meetings I have seen are “packed” with a couple of dozen LePage supporters like yourself that in fact ARE mindless puppets. They travel with him in fact. Please post the information you have that indicates his “soaring ratings” ! It’s easy to have high ratings when the entire pool providing those “ratings” is paid ahead of time and consists of a handful of die-hard Republican hatemongers. Nice try but I suspect even a fool like yourself knows that LePage is finished…..in Maine and elsewhere. Deal with it. Your hero has fallen and EVERYONE sees it, so your desperate attempt to protect your evil mentor is a wasted one. If here are in fact more people on welfare and disability in Maine then you already know the outcome. My group is doing EVERYTHING we can to assure the unheard voices of the unfortunate are heard LOUD and CLEAR on voting day !!!! Stuff that in your “organic” pipe and smoke it !
….
Never Voted for him, but Disappointed is not the word I’d choose… that’s mild…
I’m not !
….
The democrats one and only idea “spend more money on welfare to get votes, then kick the can down the road on paying for it”. Thats how Baldy and the democrats got us into being our country’s largest per capita users of welfare.
I would tend to think that Me has high welfare because of lack of jobs!! Not because people don’t want to work, but because there are no LIVABLE wage jobs…………so let’s just let them all starve and die……..
Lol, Maines poorest people are its most obese, to wildly charge that people are starving is laughable.
You can be obese and still starving.
Really….sounds like somebody who is stupid and still smart?
oh please!
when I was in kindergarten through 3rd grade, I lived in a decently sized Maine city. My family was too proud to accept welfare. We had no hot water, we bathed in the kitchen sink and had no bathroom sink. THere were 6 of us in a 1 bed apartment. My parents taught me values and what was right. We scrimped and saved and my mother used to cash in coupons seven at a time because at the bottom they read “this coupon valued at 1/7 of 1 cent”. I was pushed to work. At age at 8 I was a paperboy, at 9, I sold mops and floor cleaners door to door and was a paper boy. I mowed lawns, raked leaves and stacked firewood. In the summer while I was in college, I worked at SD Warren as summer help and worked night security, waited tables and sorted bottles at RSVP. (4 JOBS)
Today I have 2 graduate degrees from 2 of the top schools in the country and I make a ton more than my parents ever did. I also collect bottles and cans and return them for the nickels and buy all my clothes at Marshalls and on eBay, used.
There are livable jobs in maine… you just have to stop believing that someone owes you anything and that you are above working 3 jobs to make ends meet.
(oh, and while I am not a 1 percenter, I have only had 3 days off since September and I work almost every night until past 10 pm –3 days off include a Sunday, a Tuesday for a doctor appointment and a Saturday… I have worked all other weekend days…. oh, and while I am at it… I started this job with only one good eye… I had eye surgery and i begged the surgeon to give me permission to work a full 2 months earlier than he suggested.)
but all that means that I am NOT A DEMOCRAT… I work hard. I expect nothing from anyone else and I resent lazy bastards living off of my hard work.
You may work very hard for long hours for all you’ve got. But do you really believe people should be expected to work months at a time with only a few days off for leisure? Do you really believe people should get out of their sick beds and have to beg surgeons to release them to work? Do you think that’s the definition of achieving a middle class lifestyle? Or is it more akin to a life of drudgery? I don’t mock you for your drive to make a better life. But why should our politicians have the right to eliminate a whole class of wage earners and commit them to a life of servitude for a few dollars? Democrat or Republican, no politician lives hand to mouth. Why should any of us accept that?
Fortunately this is America and you don;t HAVE to accept anything ! If you don;t like your life you can change it.
Wouldn’t it be just as easy to euthanize the working people and take THEIR jobs ? I mean we can’t seem to find a Governor that will help Maine grow.
DITTO,,,,,,,DITTO & DITTO again !!
Way to tell’em thotcop!
peace out ! 357 ;<)
How can you fix a funding gap if, A: You don’t know if it really exists, and B: you don’t know what the numbers are. LePage and Mayhew either don’t have an accurate amount, or are unwilling to disclose it.
Democrats are not disapointed. Name on thing the republicans have done to turn this state around? Cutting programs? great solution. You can’t keep taking programs away when people have nothing. People need hope. They need to know the economy will turn around and I don’t see any republician working for the people.
LePage was all about promoting his “people before politics” motto too! It sure looks like he’s putting people “first” in all of his grand ideas. Plus, with his idea of cutting funding for public schools and having them close on May 1st, federal funding for schools would also get cut since schools are supposed to be in session for 175 days. If funding from the federal government gets cut, he’ll just blame someone else again.
it is because you don’t want to see obviously…one thing?…does the biggest tax cut in Maine History ring any bells…which was for the rich, I know…for people trying to manage to feed themselves on 20 grand a year…big money…
“Name on thing the republicans have done to turn this state around?”. Kept the Democrats from spending until the State debt was as large as the national debt.
the democrats gave us their solution, and that is why this state is in such a mess to begin with…
Ah you forgot about what Jock McKernan left us for debt, remember:)
Extreme partisanship? How about rightful outrage?
Anyone not outraged by LePage either has no brain or no soul.
I too am outraged, but not by LePage. I am outraged by the Democrats for having created all these financial problems to begin with. History proves these problems occurred under their watch.
So, are you upset because his administration is actually exposing all the graft and corruption of the previous Democratic administrations? Say, in the Turnpike Authority, the Housing Authority, and more? Hmm?
Accountability is a good word here. Yes, those in previous administrations who have done anything illegal or improper should be held accountable for their actions. And yes, Paul LePage should be held accountable for the crass recklessness and disrespect with which he treats Maine people.
Now now,,,Can’t ya’ FEEL the LOVE ???
I sure can,,,,,,,,and I LOVE it !!!!
peace out ! 357 ;<)
the dems are speaking the truth about more tax breaks for the Rich and trying to attack the poor and not finding jobs. How can anyone challenge that? I can’t imagine that the dems are able to speak with him at anytime and he will listen, therefore they needed to approach in the manner that they did…………….he’s a loser and taking this state down the sewer…….
So you consider a single earner of $19,500 rich.
Too true, Maine income taxes nail the maximum for a very low level don’t they.
Brunswick lost over 600 jobs because of policies and regulations and TAXES put into place by 49 years worth of DEMOCRATIC lawmakers. I remember Baldachi’s smarmy face and Pingree’s camera hogging when Kestrel came here, but thats all they did, make face time, no real effort.
“How about the democrats just stop offering extreme partisanship and give the people their solution?”
They are right behind your Fearless Leader on that count.
Media is covering up the lack of governing from the left. The truth is being skewed by name calling and threats.Iremember when one of the great dem leaders said on v o m that the governor wil have to learn how to get things done in augusta. That told me just how they wanted no changes in augusta.Bending over to the status quo was not why he got elected. He was sent on a mission to fix augusta. That is what he is doing.
The only one I see calling anyone names and threatening is LePage.
Time to remove the dem glasses. Before he was elected a lefty leader got on her soapbox and preclaimed if he did not do things her way.He was a bully and needed to treat her better.PC got us no where hard times need tough action not coverups and falsehoods from the left.Mainers deserve better than the fleecing we recieved over the last eight years.
I have absolutely no idea what you are rambling on about. You also make assumptions about me without even knowing me. Shame on you!!
The Democrats are famous for that strategy, that is why they were trounced in the last election. The people of this state had enough of the “tax and spend” party having control and having no accountability. We are capable of seeing through their rhetoric and are tired of it.
So you have no problem taking the costs of 65k people’s medical care on YOUR tax bill ? Great solution. Watch as all the big tough evil Republicans cry when their tax bill goes through the roof because of LePage’s great solutions. Ever hear of Karma ? You should enjoy the next few years of your miserable life, because when Karma catches up to you and your buddy LePage it’s gonna hurt.
….
See post to Dude above.
The cost is being paid by tax payers right now. Look, I know how these message forums go, but I have never advocated for harm and misfortune to come upon anyone, either on here or abroad in the real world. And yet, many times, people have wished that bad things would happen to me, all because of my opinions.
I have no fear of Karma at all. I have lived my life as a generous, responsible, loving individual whose greatest faults are a tendency to procrastinate on my writing assignments, to stay up too late at night and sleep in too long in the morning thus breaking Ben Franklin’s sage advice, and sometimes I am impatient with my children. There’s my confession, dude.
May the Force by with you.
Too bad the Democrats didn’t wear oversized, floppy shoes and red balls on their noses at their press conference and just be done with it.
Too busy opposing the governor than helping solve the problems they were elected to solve. Or perhaps some of the incumbants ( reelected many times) created those problems. Term limits should apply to all !
That is their typical mode of “governing”. They can’t stand not being in power!! No tactic is to loathsome to get them back in power and being able to raid worker’s paychecks again. Have Democrats ever met a tax they didn’t love?
Their solution is always the same, dip into your wallet so you pay “your fair share”.
So Cains modus operandi is,
-Never fix a problem
– Come up with some gimmick
-blame the other party
-have local dinosaur newspaper write bad articles against GOP
-raise taxes
-problem solved
i 100% agree. instead of bashing lapage lets hear thier ideas on how to fix the state.
No one dares give Ideas for fear of being Ridiculed, and Bullied By LePage. Thats his Idea of Leadership…Get Rid Of Him , Then Get Down To Business…
Well, at least you are admitting that they are not offering, or don’t have any ideas. How cowardly of them not to offer ideas if they do have them. The people of Maine support good ideas no matter where they come from.
So that is your easy out for the dems….”nobody will listen so why bother giving real solutions??”
Everything I have ever heard from Emily Cain leads me to believe she still thinks the state has a bottomless barrel of money.
The well is dry, folks.
The well is beyond dry and simple minded folks like Cain will do nothing for our current woes with their tired, unsustainable approach of eurpoean-style socialism. Just look across the pond folks, that’s where Ms. Cain would prefer to lead our posterity, into debt, destitution, and despair.
I like to refer them as Cain mutineers.
similar to if you give ideas contrary to Obama you are attacked by the media or called a racist. Obama has done nothing to fix this country in 3 years. I don’t think he is a failure because he is black, I think he is a failure as a President because he hasn’t done his job.
Well, if you blame him for the state of the economy, it was already in shambles when he took over, so blame Bush for that one.
george w bush junior does not exist republicans do not acknowledge his existence.
the bush years simply do not exist do not mention them they’re not real
Disappeared with the Clinton and Baldacci years..
not a dime’s bit of difference betwee Bush and Obama…
wake up and stop blaming the republicans or the democrats.
it is the power mongers in DC, in bed with one another.
they get you to point your finger at the ProLife idiots and the proABortion sinners.
and nobody looks at the real problems
I do believe the dems had the purse strings over the last few years of the bush admin .Now the congress is being touted as obstructionists for trying to reign in the largest expansion in goverment history.Something does not add up.
Liberals’ definition of ridicule and bullying is not being able to get their way. When LePage opposes them on public issues they accuse him of ridiculing or bullying. They can’t or refuse to understand why others may have a difference of opinion. Their repeated calls for his ouster won’t happen, and they know it. It’s just another diversionary tactic of theirs. That’s one of the main reasons their party nominee was utterly rejected in the last election.
LePage has made a name for himself in the national media — and it hasn’t been for his effectiveness. Let’s call a spade a spade. LePage consistently plays the role of a bully. LePage is a bully.
Yes, I agree with you that LePage is a bully in the sense that he uses the “bully pulpit” like all other governors do. Essentially, the “bully” accusations is politically motivated by his detractors.
So you have no ‘ideas’, no solutions to the revenue shortfall except tax the rich and endless welfare subsidies for the rest of your sad life
If we looked at your way of thinking all dems are cowards. It doesn’t matter who’s fault it is just shut up and fix it. You’re belly aching is getting sickening.
the only reason Dems ae scared of Mr Lepage is which one of them is going to be exposed as the next scandal.Go Lepage clean up augusta!
The Democrats and liberals Republicans are bent on continuing their past policies: higher taxes, more welfare, more regulations to stifle business growth and expansion, and more government control. LePage is doing all he can to turn Maine’s sluggish economy while the Democrats are balking at every step using petty issues like the mural and LePage daughter’s relatively low paying state job to divert attention away from what Mainers really care about. Yes, it’s tough not being able to get one’s way for a change after years and years of governing with little or no real opposition. I hope Mainers will not forget this in the next round of elections.
I have heard enough whining about welfare and the the “Can”!
Its about time these Tax Grumps got off their “Can” and did something consructive
Yeah, i don’t think his idea of attacking Canada to get his home back is a good idea. Just give the people of Maine their Mural back and that would be a great start!
I am a ‘person of Maine’ and I don’t want the mural in any public building.
Sell the mural and use the money for what it was intended….helping the unemployed find work; not helping rich portrait artists from N.E. Harbor paint socialist ‘art’.
WWWHHHHAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!! ;>(
Medic needed REAL bad……
I’ll get the Towels for the tears…;;;;;;;;;;;
…
What?? You baffle me. Last Friday, LePage met with democrats and he came out of the meeting saying that he felt it was productive and they were on the right track. Nothing but nice things to say of the Democrats. Bennett is stating the obvious truth. Democrats are not interested in solutions. They are interested in re-gaining power in this state. That’s all.
….
I wonder what his next threat will be, shut down the press?
Adrienne Bennett does a great job, and should be commended for it, thank you Adrienne Bennett!! and I bet she could kick you butt in a debate…
….
I agree with you. LePage needs to look outside his little box and she needs to shut up.
Can he address the facts, we need jobs now, we have extreme issues with the cost of energy, and Maine is still not business friendly.
Maine is becoming more and more desperate. Have you noticed the increased crime?
To get jobs in Maine, we need lower per kilowatt energy prices, and lower taxes, period.
Until we are there, inductries are not going to want to go somewhere where it costs so much to business.
He has been setting his tone for the past year, and it sucks.
LePage doesn’t know how to interact with people at all. He shouldn’t hold an office that directly relates to dealing with people….
You mean lie to people and cover up for fellow legislatures.Or creative ways to kick the can down the road.I hope he never learns to govern like a dem.
These things needed to be said. It’s the truth about LaPage and the repubs. Nothing positive has been done, they just stir up a lot of hate and discontent while they wage war on the good people of Maine.
stopped turnpike stealing money not positive
hospitals getting some money now not positive
trying to make some sense out of the biggest failure of the last admin (dhs) not positive
Ya right.
Pension reform, regulatory reform, health insurance reform that studies show will reduce rates for about 93% of those affected, additional $63 million in funding for Maine schools… Nope, nothing positive.
Oh yeah, tax relief, lower workers compensation rates and lower electricity rates as well. Forgot those.
Yes, but none of those things bought the democrats any votes therefore they don’t count.
Telling the president to go to hell and the naacp to kiss his butt. That should get us more money from the federal government.
We shouldn’t want money from the federal government! That welfare attitude is what got us in trouble in this country in the first place!
sucking up to a failed admin that was regulating fishermen out of business. Telling off a lying bunch of liberals that did not get their way and tried to tag him as a racist. Bowing down to this liberal crap is not something i want my governor to do.It is about time some straight talk comes out of augusta. Some time extreme groups need extreme talk.
Putting Peter Mills in charge of MTA has been the only smart thing LePage has done. It had to be accidental.
LePage’s spokesman Adrienne Bennett said, “He’s prepared tomorrow night to set his tone.”
Really? Like he did last year when he made the bogus claim that, “We have a couple of communities [in Maine] that are ready to default.”
http://www.dirigoblue.com/2011/02/lepage-we-have-a-couple-of-communities-in-maine-that-are-ready-to-default-2/
You never followed up on that did you? I remember that following week the press covered the fact that Hartland had been on the verge of default, and the LePage administration saved them. Why isn’t that covered in your attack?
Exactly, Hartland was certainly one community in Maine that was on the verge of default, and Millinocket was another–both were covered in the BDN. It wasn’t a bogus claim by LePage at all.
One of the communities LePage was talking about was Hartland because of the Tannery being shut down and it running out of money to keep the lights on. I don’t know about the other town.
Slimy, poor quality politics.
The penguin
needs to go back to Marden’s and Hagel with little old ladies over their
damaged surplus.
That is where
he belongs! His first year in office has been embarrassing to all Mainers.
Fine, you made your point well about being embarrassed for your perceived shortcomings of the Governor. I hope that you’re equally embarrassed by your lack of spelling skills, too.
This state is in trouble. It’s very depressing and LePage gave us all something to laugh about. He is running the state like we are all employees at Mardens.
With him wanting to cut MaineCare and school funding, that would be the equivalent of him cutting healthcare benefits and job training at Marden’s and say it was because of “budget shortfalls”.
Then let’s start making some jobs/money.
Speaking of Mardens, I wonder if Mardens has been “better off” or seen an increase in profits, customers etc since he left…..knowing how LePage functions, him leaving Mardens must have made the company worth more…
I have a friend who works at Mardens and she says it’s a much better place to work than it was when he was there. Money is not any better, but morale of employees is!! Wonder why!!!
The empty argument is one that devolves to name calling. When you do that, you empty all your previous positions of meaning.
Unfortunately, we’ve had LePage past Marden’s 30 day return policy, so they won’t take him back. :(
please do not speak fo me i am a mainer.I am very embarrassed by the whining from liberals that just do not get their party got maine in this mess and they lost. Now Mr lepage has to bail them out.
When you have facts ……..use the facts…….If you have laws………. use the laws………If you have neither……JUST WHINE and call people names.
LePage has been taking the state in the worng direction for his entire first year in office, set aside the weekly lies, the insults hurled at citizens, and the foot in mouth gaffs. He has brought us an economy that has lost jobs every month, he has brought us a state budget in absolute shambles, and continues to talk about cutting taxes for his wealthy friends. This guy is trhe worst thing to come to this state since the red tide
Ask the people in Brunswick if we should have given a huge tax break to the business that went to Wisconsin because Wisconsin gave them a break that Maine would not. Businesses go where it is cheapest for them to run their business. It may not be fair, but would you complain if you were unemployed and then got a job because Maine gave a company a tax break?
I think the people in Brunswick would have loved if LePage was competent enough to do more to keep Kestral here, but he is not.
LePage did not set the tone for Kestral, the Baldachi admin did by making empty promises and promises for the future they could never have guaranteed. Pingree also made promises to Kestral so she could get her face in the news but once she got back to D.C., she left them in the cold.
“Too much time has been spent on distractions on needless fighting, on baseless attacks and on extreme policies that don’t create jobs, that don’t help working families and that don’t strengthen our economy,” said House Minority Leader Emily Cain of Orono.
I thought she was talking about the democrats!
The Press Conference to ridicule the Governor before his State of the State seems premature & disrespectful. Is there a Maine Democrats news conference tomorrow before President Obama’s State of the Union tomorrow night ?? Tune in for the report on well the United States is doing after his initial four years in Office.
Lets see, the President plays golf 3-4 times a wk, shoots hoops every day, attends the World Series, NFL games, Hawaii for two wk Christmas vacation. Not many folks get two weeks off for Christmas in Hawaii but that’s “home” for him.
home for paul is florida.
liberal distraction when they have no answers.
The Democratic legislators in Augusta have a simple two step solution that will fix all the State’s ills:
1. Raise taxes on the upper 3/4 of working Mainers, including implementing fees wherever you can.
2. Spend more on social benefit programs.
Too bad they’re in the minority in the legislature, otherwise we’d not have the problems that we have.
Oh, yes. That has worked so well for the last 35 + years.
My comment was intended as tongue-in-cheek sarcasm, bayview10. Hasn’t that always been the Democratic solution – spread the wealth?
another story on this page a man on soc sec 700 a month budgetcuts ih Lheap cost this man his life he would have lost mainecare he lived alone take notice
Bet he could live quite well on the costof one of the fat cat trips for administrators.
needless fighting? Democrats feel that needless fighting is any time you are arguing with them.
put aside his ideology? That is why he was elected. People wanted a change from the mess that created by the Democrats.
Create jobs? I suppose we could continue the policies that put Maine in this place.
Maybe Democrats should stop the needless fighting and try something different when it comes to policies. Obviously their policies and ideology haven’t benefited Maine over the last few decades.
I don ‘t recall the BDN reporting the opposition’s positions the day before a major speech for the previous 8 years – and putting it on the FRONT PAGE !!
Rick and Beth – you ought to be ashamed !
i dont blame the democrats for blasting Lepage he is a facist
You really have no concept what a fascist is do you? You just want to throw insults. Try looking the concept up and you’ll discover the Obama administration are closure to fascists then our governor.
I am grateful to LePage for exposing the hundreds of millions of dollars! of corruption in Maine under the constant bullying, harassment, lies, and obstructive attempts from his political opponents.
More jobs, paying our hospital bills, exposing the corruption. A sincere thank you to Gov. LePage and his administration.
Ok moonbats..
Lepage is trying to fix 30 plus years of handouts, sweetheart deals etc..ala MTA MHA and the list goes on..he is trying to make sure Maine does not look like Eagle lake..[.everybody works for one employer funded by tax monies and has to cow tow to one elite politician]..time for more self reliance..hard work and dealing with reality..maybe he is not politically correct but he actually represents the feeling of people who work or want to work…
and all the people with their hands out riding in the entitlement wagon stamp their feet and and want more free stuff. keep up the good work paul, by the end of you’re second term you’ll have this mess fixed.
Infact LePage worked on both of these issues and was praised the other night in a special done by Baldacci, King, Brennan and Mckernan WCSH/WLBZ . When Baldy he tried taking credit for doing the work on it when he did absolutely nothing. Liberals refuse to see the state , all of its cities and towns are in trouble thanks to their abysmal economic agenda. They would rather see Augusta raise taxes on us and continue our path further to socialism and towards communism.
cleaning up and exposing the failed policies of the past is upsetting the democrats. How about helping to clean up these scams they have been running for years and move forward.Instead of partisan rants from democrats leaders. Stop the whining your party maxed out the states credit card and the adults now have to pay the bills.D.H.S losing millions,Computer programs in the millions that do not work,Extravagant trips on a budget that was earmarked for family’s that need help.Large sums going to legislatures personal business.Something the whole party including leaders knew about and accepted as status quo. This crap has to be changed to move the state forward.Pitch in and help or stand back and shut up.
here is my contribution
http://www.dial-a-prayer.com/
Like Nutting and Poliquin?????
more crapfrom the left.If they are guilty of anything then yes. From what i have read so far a lot of these is a lefty media attACK..Nice to see transparency though instead of cover ups.
“When our economy needed a shot in the arm, the governor and Republicans in the majority prioritized tax cuts for the rich, held public investment hostage, stalled our work on proven energy efficiency programs, tried to limit voting rights, made health care more expensive for many Mainers and and ignored critical work force training initiatives that would help get more Maine people back to work,” Cain said.
I’ll start out positive: Cain has a point with the voting issue. I disagree that ending same day registration was a onerous restriction on voting rights. But I see no reason to end it either. The Republican leadership would have been wise to drop that issue, in my opinion.
As for the rest of her statement–Tell me, what planet is Ms. Cain on? Tax cuts for the rich? That would be the tax cut that eliminates tax liability for 70,000 low-income Mainers, as well as raising the personal exemption and the rate for income over $20,000 for ALL Mainers. By holding public investment hostage, I assume she is referring to refusing to issue new bonds. In other words, she wanted the state to support borrowing more money, even in the face of less federal money coming to the state, relatively flat expectations for revenue and a still weak job market. Stalled work on proven energy efficiency programs? Like the Maine Green Energy Alliance funding that she benefited from, but precious few others did at the cost of $1.1 million? Made health care more expensive for many Mainers? Really? How did he do that? His insurance reform has not even taken effect yet, and, when it does, independent analysis says most Mainers will pay less.
I am sorry Ms. Cain, but your statements do not pass the eyebrow test, nor the straight face test. I laughed robustly when I read them, they were so outrageous, as the BDN would say. Then I realized there are a lot of individuals out there who are going to believe you, and who will not take the time to verify your statements…and I felt ashamed of you. Shame on you–you ought to know better than to play this game when people are suffering.
Hypocrisy?
If the dems had such great ideas why are all their programs failing and unfunded.Kicking the can is over time to pay for the liberal give away program.
People need to realize what the governor’s budget cuts are really cutting. I understand that DHHS has a budget sortfall. The work that I do is case management. Case management for adults with developmental disablities. There are adults who can live productive and independent lives, WITH a bit of assistance. This assistance that I provide is one of the services LePage proposes cutting. The service I provide is MaineCare funded. This is often the only service these individuals are receiving, short of MaineCare. In the past, these individuals who could not get by without a little bit of help would be institutionalized. Going back to such a model would NOT solve the state’s problems…in fact, who would be paying for these individuals to be taking up residence in such a facility. Likely, MaineCare. Seems to be creating a problem to solve a problem to me…
I want to hear Lepage’s ideas and I don’t want him to back down until the last bus is gone.
Yes, no one can challenge him in the slightest way. No one can try and suggest anything different than the way he see’s things.
Just another daily attack on our Governor.
if getting Maine back in line with our means, or balancing our budget without gimmicks, or possibly telling Maine the truth that we are broke is extreme…than count me in as an extremist too!
You know, many of the people who vote republican don’t have much money, no healthcare and live off the state. Governor LePurge is quick to throw them all under the bus. Who is going to support him for long. He lost the Brunswick air plane 600 jobs. Lots of talk but cannot get it done for us Mainers. Lets change the constitution so we can have recall votes… Yes or no this kind of leadership is bad for Mainers and a bad message for businesses who may be thinking of coming to Maine.
C’mon folks do you really see a difference between these Bank of America Idol Worshippers called Democrats and Republicans?
6 months from now your phone will be set to speed dial trying to reach Dial a Prayer
hoping they will send you a new set of underwear because you have soiled yourself silly from the consequences of Global Warming and Climate change eh?
see http://www.heatisonline.org
Governor LePage’s opponents want to attract people here by defacing our state with wind turbines and their costly transmission.
They also want to use these proven electricity cost elevators to lower energy costs, huh?
We finally have a Governor who truly wants to fix things and these sore losers just can’t shut up.
Well maybe when voting comes around the voting machines should be check before use for I notice when I put my card through it was having problems going through and lets say I have not see one plan from the Republics for anything only taking what is not their like the funds from the teachers and social security which has been going on for years and they never paid it back. So you voted for them so guest what you got what you deserve me I knew better never trust what they say and read for they only telling you what you want to hear so when they get in the promise is broken. At least some democrats are trying and when they put it through guest what the other side do their best to shoot it now. So read, listen in between the lines and you will find out that what they are saying is the same but in a different format. It is time for the Maine people to stand up and fight instead of complaining for I am going to stand up and do my part and it will be shame on the people we voted in. Can you stand up and fight for what is right for Maine? or are you one of those who is rich and we as the people who is out of work and living on a fixed income for I will not vote for people who is not for the middle class which is no longer but poor who is doing their best to find work. Maybe it is time for the government to walk in our shoes and see how it feels. Mr. Le Page can tell you anything and he can claim he was homeless etc. but he is missing the point for you can’t keep cutting till nothing is not there and where will the people of Maine be? What I see is if he continue to do his stuff Maine will be a ghost town.
Governor LePage reminds me a lot about Newt Gingrich, you never know what’s going to come out of his mouth next. A walking time bomb….Governor, if you started speaking to Maine’s people with a more softer tone and approach, you may get more favorable repsonse to some of your needs than trying to force your measures down their throats and than threaten them when things don’t go your way. It’s all about governing….Gov….what’a say…..this Republican wants a better tone set forward….
I have a bit of a hard time taking Barry Hobbins seriously about how to lower energy costs. This is the guy who pushed for Saco’s wind turbine, now a monument to stupidity that does not work.
I can’t believe what I just read. Talk about calling the kettle black. Ever since Governor LePage’s inauguration, the Democrats have had nothing good to say about all the Republican legislative accomplishments. The Democrats fought the Republicans every step of the way, all while they tried to maintain the failed policies of Baldacci. The Democrats were even opposed to transferring money from MPBN and Efficiency Maine, to our needy Mainers who are on LIHEAP. Fortunately, LePage got his way and 9 million dollars were eventually transferred to help needy Mainers stay warm this winter.
It seems to me that the Democrats are only working for the far left special interest groups and their mouths are being controlled by the far left zealot, George Soros. Shame on the Democratic Party for not representing the Maine people. JFK would be rolling in his grave if he witnessed all this hatred coming from his beloved Democratic Party, not to mention the strict partisanship that puts the special interest groups ahead of the Maine people. LePage is a good man and for once the Maine people have representation in the Blaine House.
Let’s remember, the 4.5 billion dollar state pension budget deficit that occurred under Baldacci’s watch (LePage inherited) and the watch of the Democratic majorities in both the Maine House and Senate. The Democrats promised their special interest groups the world, but failed to take the Maine taxpayer into consideration, nor were they smart enough to budget accordingly. LePage helped reduce this debt and now the good Maine State employees actually have a retirement account again and will be able to retire. And to think, the Democrats even criticized LePage for fixing the state pension, of all things. The only thing that comes out of the Democrat’s mouths is hate, negativity and venom. Even with all of LePage’s legislative accomplishments, the Democrats can’t even acknowledge anything good. The Maine Democratic Party has become the PARTY OF NEGATIVITY (AKA, the PARTY OF NO).
Apparently, the Democrats prefer a Governor who has a smiling face and crooked hand, you know, the one who appointed Dale McCormick and Paul Violette and thought they were doing a fantastic job. Of course, we all know differently. And to think, the Democrats are even criticizing LePage for unraveling the corruption in the MTA and the MSHA. Unbelievable!!!
As for me, I am a simple Joe the taxpayer and couldn’t be happier with Governor LePage. For once we have representation in the Blaine House. Of course, the crooks (Baldacci appointees) like Paul Violette and Dale McCormick probably aren’t happy with LePage for uncovering their corruption, but isn’t that representative of a Governor who is doing his job, for a change?
Go Governor LePage, you have our full support!
It took more than LePage’s efforts to get the additional money for the heating oil. Read the news articles.
Yes, it took a lot of arm twisting from LePage. LePage wanted to transfer an additional 3.8 million dollars from MPBN to the needy Mainers who rely on LIHEAP to keep them warm, but Democratic House Minority Leader Emily Cain said NO. This alone would have helped heat about 4,500 homes this winter. Shame on Emily Cain.
Lepage wanted to do away with MPBN.
They just wherent up to the GOP Standard.
Something about them actually telling the truth!
Worse yet, if you gave MPBN money they still went and spoke the truth. In Republican/Tea Party thinking that’s downright theft! It’s probably something about honor and integrity that flies (As it often does) right over the heads of conservatives.
And now I can retire comfortably on my $600. a month social security and freeze to death while watching public brodcasting. GET REAL !
You can always count on the government!
MPBN and “truth” should never be used in the same sentence. It’s an oxymoron.
Why does everything have to be about politics? I get it, you don’t like the GOP, fine. But can you at least try to understand why these things happen without throwing around crazy accusations?
The cuts to MPBN were about a lack of tax revenues, and also that the state government doesn’t really have any place in funding broadcasting companies. If any sort of business entity is unable to survive on its own, then it needs to go away.
You realize that MPBN is a corporation, right? Corporations have executives, MPBN executives get paid a lot, just like most every other corporation. But, if this were any other corporation you would have a problem with it, I am sure.
LeTard only did that to obfuscate the conflict of interests inherent in having him have his own TV show aired on MPBN.
No
He wants MPBN to get their own damn money, that State Constitution says nothing about subsidizing Broadcast Networks.
PS the head honcho at MPBN makes 250K large year! He should get his own damn funding.
Maine Majority is right, Cain would rather us old folks freeze to protect her hack friends at MPBN!
You’re dumbber than a bag of rocks. If you are going to get on the side of people that are directly against the interests of the people of the State of Maine, at least get Ur story straight.
How much is your house worth. Where else could you live. These are the questions you should be focusing on. Stop masturbating to your posts on the Bangor Daily and do something…to get out of our state.
And wonder why I know for sure you and your friends and associates are NOT hardworking Mainers. Think about that one and slosh it back and forth between your lips and tooth.
You are never doing anything but posting on this blog on every article they post. You’re also on the blogs for Augusta and Portland. You are a slouch and a con man. You and your friends are sucking off the teat of this system and need to get up off your fat arses, get a job elsewhere, and get the hell out of our state.
We will find you. Have you ever heard of Yankee Ingenuity. Go West young man. You have to be firing this crap off from somewhere. Follow this link and think about what it teaches us. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3r-ylgBXepQ&feature=related
Does what Cain did surprise you? Her priorities are so screwed up. She must have friends or relatives at MPBN. Let’s see. Heating homes or funding an unneccessary left-wing television station? Hmm. Which would a REAL public servant choose? Well, it’s not the one that Emily did. She wants to run for the State Senate? Those who pay taxes will remember this one in November, believe me.
Lie page is a joke.
It appears, ol’junkster, that the joke is on you. Mainemajority just cleaned your clock, ate your lunch, cooked your goose, dusted you off, put you out to pasture, took you yard, put your junk in the trunk, etc. and so on and so forth…….just sayin’.
Mainemajority speaks for many of us out here in bdnland that are tired of the dems tactics, whining and obstructing.
Surely you jest, I know that most of you enjoy my negative comments about our outstanding temporary Governor, just enjoy it while it lasts because in 2013 we will recall him.
Sorry dude?!?!
Ain’t gonna happen….
Just thot i’d warn ya’,
what else are FRIENDS for?
Wanna lay a wager on that ? We are already organizing transportation for ALL the seniors and disabled in Maine to get to the polls and cast THEIR vote…you have NO idea how outnumbered you are. LePage is finished. The only worry now is damage control until he is removed.
Baldacci did nothing for those of us who pay taxes. It was all about giving away our tax dollars. Under his watch the DHHS “misplaced/lost” how many millions of dollars and his turnpike chief stole nearly a half a million dollars of our money. Finally, we have a leader who is trying to bring some of this insanity under control. When DHHS “lost ” that money, did anyone lose their job? No, lets just raise taxes and make up the difference on the backs of those who already paid into that money-sucking agency! What’s the matter, are you afraid your free ride may be coming to an end?
P.S.- Message to Emily Cain: You and your minions in Augusta had the Governorship and the majority in the Legislature for years and did nothing for the hard-working taxpayers of this state except loot our paychecks every week, and NOW, you say you want to help the working men and women of Maine. Where the hell have you been? Stop playing politics and do your job!!!!!! You are such a hypocrite. If this were a Democratic Governor who was trying to fix up this mess(I know, I know, but let’s say it was possible for argument sake), you would be lined right up behind him and not trying to undermine his success. You work for us, not the Democratic party, Emily! Remember working people vote in November, too.

Ahem, you have a screw loose. It’s not a maybe situation . You are cracked and need inpatient psychiatric stabilization. But I’m not the first to tell you that, am I?
Why do you keep brining up Baldacci? Baldacci stuck it to state workers with job eliminations, mandatory unpaid furlough days, health insurance premium contributions and copays all so your rich masters could collect oodles more cash on their investments and create more jobs. Unfortunately, those misguided efforts led to people like you thinking it was the right direction do go in. It is not.
Wow, aren’t we an angry person. It is typical of liberals to attack facts that you’d rather ignore, by personally attacking someone. I criticized a political policy and shortcomings during the previous administration that the current administration is trying to fix, and you attack me personally. I did forget, though, and thank you for reminding me, that as a non-liberal, I am not allowed to bring up the previous adminstration’s faults. I now understand that that right is reserved for liberals who have spent the last three years blaming Bush for the way the economy is right now, even though it has been the Obama policies that have made the economy much worse. I stand corrected. As for my needing a psychiatric evaluation, I can assure you that I am mentally stable– I just disagree with you and the liberal agenda. But I do understand that name-calling is all you really have to use to defend your agenda, so I will take the high road and not take it personally, nor will I suggest that maybe it is you who should seek professional help.
What makes you think I’m angry?

How much do you think we are spending on “Homeland Security”, 4 wars, outer space endeavors, and keeping people like you confused. I’ll give you a hint, it’s a factor of about 100 million. So go yank your doodle or whatever it is you lameass moreons do.
What has the current Governor done for you? Are your taxes lower? I am willing to bet that they are not much lower, maybe a few bucks huh? Just think about the millionaire friends of his who are saving thousands and thousands of dollars while we are in the worst recession ever. Now is not the time for tax breaks, trickle down economics does not work. History has proved that fact.
I personally am sick of being trickled on. I have family and friends that live in Maine. Some of them need nursing home care. Some of them need case managers. These goons from out of state are too obvious to waste our time trying to figure out if they are enemy combatants. It’s very clear and they are enemy combatants. If the Mexicans tried this shiitt we’d already be on top of them. LeTard is leading the destruction of Maine for Canada and it’s allies. It’s a no-brainer. And he and his buddies need to take a nap.
Take a Break Lil’ Croonie…
Mainemajority—–{As for me, I am a simple Joe the taxpayer and couldn’t be happier with Governor LePage}
He bought Him cheap, $134.00 Tax Break, WhooooppppYYY!
If that’s true you should’ve found a candidate that wouldn’t make you look so bad. Mainemajority is an odd name since the real Maine Majority did not vote for him. Be careful of your stance because it WILL be remembered when your “mascot” gets the boot. People like Mainemajority will be leaving the state on the same bus as LePage with their heads held down in shame very soon. While they’re at it they can take Marden’s Chinese Junk Outlet with them…..The “mistake” will soon be corrected.
And then once we leave, who is going to pay your welfare?
You will.
More like Silent majority, the silent Majority has been forced to listen to all the liberal rubbish for the last 40 years. Face it, the policies have failed.
That is why the Silent Majority elected LePage and also converted the State House and Senate to Republican control.
You weren’t born here. Go home.
Too bad he’s one on us.
Are we supposed to be surprised by them lousy Dems…. and their Hate speech rhetoric inane absured preposterous whacked out biased .?.?.?.?.
Hey , help me out here,!,! I’m trying to think of clean appropriate definitive examples of our Illustrious opposing parties stands against everything moral and upbuilding for the society of this great State of confusion address that they’re SSSOOOO UPSET about.
HUH ???? i can’t HEAR you GOMER !!! ;<) Peace Out !!! 357
Stop waving that gun around!
NOTICE: Dear… mainemajority…. We’re right beside you supporting all the good peeps.
Let us know when YOU retire from your POLITICAL seat and we’ll have a WICKED Awesome Party fo ya’…….OK?????
WE FEEL YOUR love !!!!!
Peace out ! ;<)
Stop Portraying a Demon To Be a God…. He Is Who He Is… I’m a Democrat and Very Angry At Republicans for voting in this, ***** LePage in as Governor, as I’m sure many Republicans regret voting him in…Don’t Change the focus from Who he is and how Wrong he is and the harm he’s been doing since hes been in office…The way he conducts himself and meetings, saying that he will do things he has no power to do just for scare tactics, thinking that people are stupid and will allow him to do it because of the position he holds… It No Longer Works That Way, He can raise his voice, call names, belittle, Talk till hes blue in the face, we will still say GET OUT OF OFFICE, and President John F Kennedy Is Proud Of Us, We are standing up for the little people, Not for the rich!!!
I voted for him straight through the primaries to the election, and I fully read every article the BDN puts out about him and I have not found a thing that I disagree with him about. I don’t expect politicians to be nice, I just expect them to do their job. So far LePage is the only one I have seen that seems to be doing exactly what he said he was going to do while running for office. I will continue to vote for him as long as he continues to make progress in turning this state around.
Really ? Where’s the jobs ? Where is the End of Welfare ? LePage has done NOTHING except ride around the State in his brand new SUV wearing Hollywood shades, and accompanied by a bevy of young and pretty…..assistants ?? What exactly do they do ? ? Republicans and Democrats alike have been suckered by this bum ! Republicans are just too hostile to admit it.
Lol this is definitely not an image I can relate to, sorry. The most important thing I think he has been working on is lowering our overall cost of energy. We are not even close as far as being competitive enough to attract business, and we certainly have plenty of talent or have the ability to gain talent through all of the New England schools.
Hopefully the bevy are doing what they are needed to do, young and pretty, they sure are not Angry, ugly, smelly Dem females…..Watch the Dem mouth piece gals on t/v then check out the Rep women….Most of Dems look like men….
You cant undo 40 years of over regulation, failed tax policies, and government beuarocracy in one year.
I tip my hat to him, he gave the People’s Commisar bolshevick portrait the heave ho,
balanced the budget, started stream lining things and will tackle this latest leftover Baldacci DHHS fiasco head on.
LePage has been in office for a year now, you can’t make all of these changes magically in a year. Just as I gave Obama a reasonable amount of time to “get stuff done” before making judgments, I will do the same for LePage, as should you.
Good Luck!…
Well of course you’re angry, and you should be. After all, the governor is steadily undoing everything the liberals accomplished for the last couple decades.
Here is a thought that will really make you have to increase your blood pressure medication. What if Governor LePage is re-elected, and blunt speaking, tell it like it is Gingrich is elected president?
It also is no feather in your cap if John, Robert, Ted, Joe, or any of the other above the law Kennedy’s would be proud of you. You should probably add the Clinton’s to your list too.
Forget it…they are Republicans remember ? They WANT to crush the non-rich people, but they screwed up by electing a hot-tempered brainless bufoon to do the job. Now their agenda is known and their entire party will suffer. Thanks to LePage’s big mouth the whole nation sees this now….So as a new Democrat….LePage is great !!! He is doing more for the Democratic party than ANY Democrat could ! Lol Lol Lol !!!
What a hoot. The classic Swift Boat attack. Take all your weaknesses and lay them on the shoulders of your opponents. Take all their strengths and paint them through distortions of truth as weaknesses.
Honestly this Simple Joe comment reeks of Lepage’s personal right wing political group known as “Maine People Before Politics.” If you want to know LePage and understand the perverse view he and his party has of you, all you need to know is the name of this organization. Really let’s face it, the only person who could give such a loving viewpoint of Paul would be his mother (Well most folk’s mothers anyway) or someone who’s paid to write such trash. Lauren?????
Now yes, I know Paul has put some people before politics but what about the rest of us out here? How else can one explain his giving his daughter a 41K government job on our dime? Bad political decision so he clearly put her wayyy before politics…or of course us the taxpayer.
We must not forget that Paul also gave an additional tax break to his rich friends and contributors who have estates worth over $2 million bucks! Again putting his friends ahead of logical political action.
What has Paul done for the average Mainer? Why he and his supporters have painted a very large number of us as lazy, uneducated, leeches on society. Wow! Way to draw in and retain quality people and businesses to the State Paul. YIKES! Guess the majority of us out here simply aren’t the RIGHT kind of people Mr. LePage wishes to put first. We’ve learned our place in your world Paul. We will vote accordingly in the upcoming 2012 elections.
Couldn’t have said it better !! LePage is history next election and I will personally do anything in my power to accomplish this……as will thousands more of us disabled “leeches” that worked for 35 yrs paying INTO the system before personal tragedy struck. I never worked harder for anything in my life and probably never will. Seniors, the Disabled, Working middle class, EVEN his own party members…are ALL against him this time ! Goodbye LePage…we won’t miss you. Bum !
I spent 35 years self employed and am now disabled and living on a small SSDI pension which I paid into. I voted for Mr. Lepage and would do so again. I have lived within my means and think the state should also. I support smaller ,less expensive government.
….
To late , we have been targeted in the Obama health care act which is now law. Look at the section on the rise in medicare contributions by 2014. Over 300% increase in individual contributions . This comes only after the next presidential election I might add. Also have to say that Obama didn’t grant a cola adjustment for the past two years to SSI and SSDI recipients. He did give us a small cola this year. Again just before an election. All politicians see fit to play with our retirements. Everyone should be concerned because this is a shallow well that will run dry and what’s next ?
….
How much did you pay in and how much have you taken out?
You are only bitter because you worry that LePage will take all of your benefits away. If you get nothing from Maine government but a bill to pay for the services Maine cannot afford to have, you have to like what LePage is doing. He may not be the best at public speaking, but he is doing the job he was elected to do. You can’t have something for nothing.
Mainemajority-143 likes. StillRelaxin’s reply-20 likes. That’s some majority you have there. Less than the 19% in the last election.
You guys rage that LePage has his hands tied by years of democrat incompetence, are the first to say Obama is incompetent because of years of republican incompetence.
You and the 106 people who “liked” your post are iddiotts. Period. I’m planning to move my tax paying, professional Arrse along with my wife’s high paid professional Aarsse out of Maine because we can’t stand the stench of people like you. I came back to Maine having grown up here knowing that the jobs don’t pay as well. But I am simply not willing to put up with SStuppidd people like you running my life. Bite me. And we’ll be taking our well to do hard working highly educated friends with us, because your crap his struck us all the same way. Excuse me, “Kids, do not come back to this God forsaken state. It’s full of idddiottss that will ruin your life like a drunk high school girl driving home the morning after the senior class party.”
MoRees I hear ya bud but don’t leave yet !! Stick around and watch the real leeches like Mainemajority get run out of Maine for good ! People like that and supporters of LePage are definately the minority so you’re not alone. Keep in mind that Susuan Collins is responsible for LePage’s rise to fame, and should ALSO pay the price….we have an opportunity to drive the Republican hate machine out of Maine forever !! Let’s take it !
I say you should at least stick around until next November when the voters will sort all this out at the voting booths. The only power Lepage has is in his slim House and Senate majorities. When he loses both in November, he’ll be all bark (Still full of embarrassment for most Mainers on each bark I’m sure) but no bite. Maine will be healed soon thereafter.
See ya
are you having a melt down???
You must be a consultant on some fat State Contract.
Why are you insulting MaineMajority, when he provides facts and has a very logical position which most reading this “like”.
Your moniker is interesting since the “MAJORITY” of Mainers did not vote for this travesty of a Governor. The only true comment I read in your long-winded speech is that you are in fact as you wrote “a simple taxpayer”…..I stress the term “simple”.
Isn’t it nice how you can say whatever you want on the internet, and some people will believe it simply because someone said it. Your statement is a perfect example, because it only takes 5 minutes of personal research to see you don’t know your butt from a hole in the ground when it comes to the politics of this state. LePage hasn’t accomplished anything other than the division of his own people. Maine has been “open for business” for over a year now, but where are the jobs LePage promises? Oh and I guess he must have been representing you when he gave the largest tax break in state history, to the wealthy and their estate’s. Cutting the elderly and poor from their only form of affordable healthcare and prescription drug assistance sure was thinking about the people of Maine. Insulting people who have lost their jobs or threatening to hold our education system hostage must be thinking about the people of Maine too.
Yeah..just keep telling yourself that.
Ok
Mr Accountant, what did LePage change in Maine tax code which gives all them rich people money and the rest of us nothing.
You sound like those Occupy idiots at Lincoln Park.
very nicely said. thank you mainemajority!
Someday scientists will figure out a way to harness the energy created by churning stomach acid generated by watching people who call themselves Democrats and Republicans. see what I mean?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAaQNACwaLw&feature=related
The dems have had over 30 years, and made a mess out of our state, now whats our governor to fix everything in 2 years. I say keep up the good work Mr. LePage. Can’t wait until more investigating into the Maine State Housing.
The sad fact is that this state is a mess.
We are so entrenched in the blame game and finger pointing that we are totally distracted by the real problems. Expanding government and adding taxes is not the answer to our problems. We the people have abdicated all responsibility to the infamous “they” and are not taking any measures to get our state back on track. What ever happened to pride, hard work and desire to improve one’s self by taking control of our own destiny?
I am tired of everyone feeling that they are entitled to something from government.
Very well stated……
Why bother with it Governor? The Democrats will not agree with anything you say, as a matter of fact they have already denigrated you before you give it. Baldacci never suffered the ire of Republicans or the BDN at this level during his reign. Perhaps the people in Augusta are all afeared for their jobs.
Baldacci never suffered the ire of the Republicans ? What State are you living in ?
You must have missed where I wrote “at this level”.
Maybe Baldacci wasn’t as confrontational ?
Not much news here!
Just democrats doing what they do best.
Nothing.
And whining about someone that is trying to right the wrongs that have been done for thirty plus years of dem control.
Funny that some are affronted (or pretend to be affronted) by what could pass as either typical politics or genuine dismay at Paul LePage.
As if it is typical for Maine politics to descend to this level. As is this is governorship as usual. As if respect for ANYONE is even in the LePage vocabulary.
True, the man is not being treated with the respect one might expect a governor might receive. Truer still that this man is a sad joke of a governor and deserves no respect at all.
The scene is set for all of true Mainers, not Floridians or Canadians, to listen closely to what exactly Paul says and watch his body language. I think most intelligent people will figure out that his big speech is mostly Lies and half truths.
The LIARS aren’t in control anymore. They’re now the WHINERS.
When I grew up we had a Governor with some integrity his name was Longley it was all down hill from there, but this LePage guy is a true Piker.
Can you give examples?
Mckernan. nuff said.
Seven more years of this whining
What was said that was not true?
Yeah but that counts Libby’s 19%!
If you can invent a mythical TEA PARTY to blame, we can blame the LIBERAL Party—which Btw is still on the ballot in New York.
Try to imagine how little he cares…he,he,he.
OOO, good one junker, your sooo witty.
Thanks, and I know I am.
It is clear from your writings that you are employed by one of them, the only question is, which one!!
Wow, and you have no idea do you…Your’re not even close…
Maybe its time for the demorcrates to step up improve the living conditions in Maine whereas you would have those who left the state due to the high taxes to return. I left for that very reason. There are to many living off everyone those that work; just because thats the way its been. The state of Maine cannot continue the way of the past. Its nice to see a govenor making some hard choices; time for the politicians in Augusta to be part of the solution and not the problem as it has always been. Wake up Augusta….
“Too much time has been spent on distractions on needless fighting, on baseless attacks and on extreme policies that don’t create jobs, that don’t help working families and that don’t strengthen our economy,” said House Minority Leader Emily Cain of Orono.
You mean like the continued useless fight, wasting taxpayer dollars in court, over a stupid mural? Is that what you’re talking about Ms Cain? Some how I think not.
Another story written at the intersection of Pot and Kettle Avenues. But there is one salient point: the Ds can rile him and get him off script…something he desperately needs to avoid.
Boo Hoo Hoo Keep it up Gov. You must be doing something right to PO The dems
The one thing I hope LePage will say in his state of the state address is that for the betterment of Maine, he will pull a Sarah Palin and resign. When I read the BDN’s opinion page today I saw to my disgust that Walmart in Waterville has been getting $450,000 in annual tax breaks and this little perk will continue for the next several years. I want to know why subsidies for corporations are called “tax breaks, tax deductions, and tax credits” while subsidies for poor people are called “welfare, socialism, and job busters?”
Best post here so far.
agreed!!!
When the democrats loose an election and are not in control they are all about “working together” All they did the last eight years is make us one of the largest welfare states in the nation Keep it up Gov. cut DHHS and send the freeloaders back where they came from!
I hope he resigns tomorrow
Dale McCormick and Paul Violette also wish for the resignation of Governor LePage.
LePage is on Facebook, Representative Cushing.
I wonder what else he will say
Impeach LePage….get that nut out of office fast….he is going to ruin Maine..
I hope the republicans can keep going…l
Time for some fact checks
35 years of liberalism — let’s see 2 democrat administrations, 2 independent administrations and 1 republican administration —
Mr Violette the liberal ruin of the MTA — served 23 years — makes his appointment plus or minus 1988 under a republican admistration
MSHA authorities wages — hmm supported by 1/3 federal tax dollars and 2/3 from loan activity — that is why it is called a quasi state agency
LePage the job creator — latest reports from Maine Department of Labor — lose of 4500 jobs in the last year
Mr Baldacci the ruin of Ketral job developement — almost a whole year of negotiations under the LePage Regime — latest claim from Mr LePage the Friday before Kestral decision — all is under control–yep under the control of Wisconson
Mr LePage’s claim to do no harm to the elderly and infirmed — 60 million of the 120 million proposed cut to directly affect the elderly, handicapped and mentally ill
Lowered the health insurance rates on 93% — to the expence of the elderly and those least able to afford health insurance
One of the first acts after taking office — 200 million tax cut to Maine’s wealthiest — truth
Cutting serveces to deal with the assumed 120 million dollar DHHS shortfall is cutting taxes — nope it would balance the agency’s budget but not cut taxes —
Cutting services in DHHS balances the budget — nope submitting the supplemental budget ( whole budget ) then they can balance the budget
Voting straight democrat in November is the answer — nope — look closely at all the canidates and elect the one who best supports his constituents — democrat, republican or independent
Democrats only working for far left special interest gruops and George Soros — Lepage only working for the Tea Party , Maine Heritage Foundation and the Kochs — if this is the case ( probably some truth ) then they are not working for us and our best interests
democrat’s pension mess — somewhat inherited from the borrowing by the McKernan admistration to balance their budget
43% on welfare — 43% receive some form of money from the state or federal government— that includes Social Security, housing assistance, AFDC, SSI, medicare, medicaid, food stamps, and the list goes on — some earned, some as subsidy and some as outright benefits — the largest percentage of which is given to the elderly
the problem is 35 years of liberalism — that is ancient history — the problem is today not yesterday — the legislators — republican and democrat– need to sit down and deal with the problems –no brow beating , no bullying , no threats — just a good honest look at the whole budget and see how we can make it work
Whine on, harvest moon
How dare Lepage for refusing to spend money we don’t have!
With how annoying LePage is, I can gaurantee he will not be re-elected. Yes I voted for the other guy.
Paul LePage is NOT fit to be a Governor. Check out all the parodies on Youtube about him from all over the world. He has made a laughing stock of this state. As part of the 61% that DID NOT vote for him I take great pleasure in seeing that I was correct about his crass, caveman intellect. All we heard about was Jobs, Jobs, Jobs….and more jobs have been lost since he took over than any time in the past. Then there was his messiah-like promise to “end welfare”…and now we find out that his plan is to end the State’s involvement and put the burden of these programs right onto the plate of hard working Mainers. All of the uninformed supporters of LePage will be quite surprised when they need a loan to pay their property tax next year if he is allowed to continue. Parties notwithstanding Paul LePage is the biggest tragedy to ever hit the State of Maine in it’s entire history. I for one have changed parties and will vote Democrat from now on….it can’t be as bad as what we have now. If he were any kind of man he would step down on his own. Also since he was endorsed by Collins and Snowe I will be voting against them as well…..as all Mainers should ! SAVE MAINE !!!! IMPEACH LePage !!!
The state of the state speech. Lots of fist pounding and grunting. Maybe this will be the time that he takes his shoe off and pounds the table with it! lol.
LePlague has been caught in LIE after LIE after LIE…LePlague is the single most disruptive entity in this WHOLE PROCESS….LePlague has exhibited his ONE TRACK MIND throughout his whole career as Governor … LePlague NEEDS to look in several directions BEFORE deciding it’s all MaineCares fault…LePlague needs to look into INTERNAL AFFAIRS…he may just find where the moneys are going…This is one of the HIGHEST TAXED states and there is no more money?? And while MaineCare recipients are ONLY 5% of the problem he continues to blame them. TIME TO RECALL LePlague!!! LOOSER!! He thinks he can UNILATERALLY make decisions…it doesn’t work that way … LePlague is a FOUL MOUTHED , INSECURE, BULLY…suffering from DELUSIONS of GRANDEUR.
The clammer is tired of being called lazy by you right wing supporters of the current kakistocracies. I work always have am liberal and would not want a dime of your so called hard earned money that your grandparents probably did work hard for. May you use your money in hell to keep the fires warm while being molested by your church leaders down there. Since you-all seem to think libs are lazy I think all conservatives are gay. Lindsey Graham comes to mind, Larry Craige, Tom Delay no wonder conservatives are homophobes most are homos in love with Glen Beck.
Emily Cain, you are cordially invited to move back to New Jersey.
It’s too bad we live in a state where the petty politicians follow the example set by those at the national level. There is way too much of one party trying to blame and make the other party look bad. They spend way too much time doing that and not enough of taking care of the needs of the people of Maine. Plus having a governor who if he does not get his way throws a tantrum and threatens to take action without care of how it effects the Maine people. Yes we are in a financial mess and there is no quick fix as many would have you believe. I do not blame one party or the other for it but place the blame squarely on the shoulder of all the politicians in Augusta no matter what party. It is high time they, including the gov, go from blaming the dems for this or the republicans for that and start working together for the good of the peopleof the State of Maine (I know that is a pipe dream that will never happen, the political machine is too broken to be fixed properly).
Let’s face it, Maine hasn’t had a decent Dem Gov since Ken Curtis, and the Party Formerly Known as the GOP hasn’t had one since John Reed.
But LePage is at the bottom of the barrel in the 50 years I’ve been following Maine politics. And the change within the Party Formerly Known as the GOP is why this former Barry Goldwater volunteer left it…
Ah another report from Rep Emily Cain that pearl of wisdom for the Liberal Democraps
“Maine Democrats blast LePage before State of the State address”
Really??????LOL..
They are trying to set a more “positive tone”…….plus they don’t want anymore “distractions”…..sometimes you just can’t make this stuff up……Crazy……
I think it’s telling that the general Republican response to the Democrats’ criticisms are just personal attacks. They’re not responding to the merits of the arguments/criticism — they’re basically just saying Democrats are bad people for dissenting.
It’s no more telling than those people who don’t discuss LePage’s policies, but call him a liar, fat, LiePage. LePlague. Penguin (although I am not sure that that’s not a compliment), evil, heartless, jerk….well the list could go on.
I am curious–what do you see as the merits of the Democrats’ arguments/criticisms?
I should have been specific in my writing, I was refering to the statements released by the politicians and their staffs — not online BDN comments.
“When our economy needed a shot in the arm, the governor and Republicans in the majority held public investment hostage, stalled our work on proven energy efficiency programs, tried to limit voting rights, made health care more expensive for many Mainers and and ignored critical work force training initiatives that would help get more Maine people back to work” Emily Cain.
Response: “It’s disappointing that Democrats are focusing solely on the negative. This was extreme political rhetoric,” Bennett said. “While they are focusing on tone, he’s focused on finding solutions.”
Obviously there are politics and games involved, but Democrats have legitimate criticisms and you can’t simply wave them away as “extreme political rhetoric.”
– He made health care more affordable by opening up markets.
– He doesnt want to borrow even more money, state is broke so no need for these “public investment= more state workers”
– Proven energy efficiency programs= scams for more windmills= higher energy costs
Ok
So what do you want cut?
ALso when folks report facts like 120 million shortfall, you are saying those are lies too?
I didn’t say anything was a lie, so you’re kinda just coming at me with a stupid and generic reply. What do I want to cut? I didn’t say anything about cutting. Again, an irrelevant reply is what you’re giving me.
My point is that Democratic politicians are presenting reasonable complaints and they’re being met with responses that are essentially stating that Democrats are simply bad people for dissenting. It’s not a legitimate response.
Sorry
But the Democrat Pols Cain et al, are offering nothing and people should call them out.
Public investment?? Why do we need to invest in anything? Obama invested 1 trillion $ of our children’s money on a failed stimulous plan, has been an epic failure.
What proven energy efficiency programs are you talking about, should private sector capital be used if the returns are so outstanding or is this another scam like the Maine Peoples Green energy alliance who wasted 500000$ on energy audits. Emily Cain got one and as I recall they averaged about 15k$ per audit. another Baldacci disgrace!
Limit voting rights? you mean forcing students from away to register their cars and change there license to the town of residence in Maine instead of commiting voter fraud by becoming a “Maine Citizen for a day to vote”?
You mean changed requirements and regulations so people have more choice on out of state Insurers to increase competition to lower costs?
Work force training? Another government cluster!
Disregarding your numerous falsehoods, you’re still severely missing the point that I’ve very clearly stated several times already.
You post nothing other than to Parrot the BDN article.
The GOP has no personal attacks on Cain, She is attacking LePage.
You Parrot Cain’s criticism and I just pointed out all the false hoods in Cain’s lies and fabrications., one by one.
Your post adds no value to the discussion.
You’re getting pretty extreme with your hyperbole. You haven’t accurately characterized my point at all. There actually is no discussion, because you’re just kinda screaming at me with irrelevant falsehoods. So, whatever.
Lets hear what our Gov has to say first, the Dems are such a bunch of cry babies!!!!! Hopefully most of you will be gone this Nov!! Cant wait to vote!!!!!!!!!
It’s amazing how stupid these democrats think the people of Maine are. They had control of the legislature for years and did nothing but promote the entitlement nature they created. People stop looking for hand-outs and take control of your own future, you are the only one to blame for your failures.
What a garbage article!
Emily Cain, Pingree, Mitchell, Baldacci etc ran the state in the into the ground. Look at the abuses in all these Departments that have been uncovered. Dale McCormick should be the next one to be prosecuted.
Kudos to Governor LePage for facing the problems head on. It is time the Democrats start supporting the governor’s proposals or proposing what they want cut in the DHHS budget!
They are the ones who created this mess in the first place!
“Governor LePage is a great man who is finally taking the proverbial bull by the horns and straightening out the financial crisis in Maine.”
“Governor Lepage is being unfair by his proposed Mainecare cuts, and should be removed from office ASAP.”
There….all the bases are covered for both the left and the right. No need for either side to continue to rant on and on and on and on…….
All I can say is Governor, you are not making changes fast enough. The more the Progressives and radical environmentalists complain, the better and the cleaner the air is to breathe in the great State of Maine. We’ve allowed the Progressives way to much time at the tiller and all they’ve done is to navigate us into a vortex.
It’s tough to sail out of a storm and it always gets worse before the weather clears. Keep up the good work Governor and good luck tonight with your speech!
